    Carpentry and Structural Specialist (With $3K New Hire Bonus Payment)

    About NRHA Founded in 1940, the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) provides low-income families in Norfolk, Virginia with safe and well-maintained housing. It also plans and administers large-scale residential redevelopment programs within Norfolk.

    NRHA is an award-winning public housing authority and has been effective in obtaining private investment partners to fund new neighborhoods; improving low-income public housing; planning and building mixed-income communities; and offering programs that support residents receiving rental assistance on their path to self-sufficiency. NRHA aims to create and apply meaningful housing and neighborhood development programs to serve all residents of Norfolk.

    About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of Carpentry and Structural Specialist. The job holder performs routine and non-routine carpentry and structural repair at public housing communities and other NRHA-managed properties, and constructs cabinets, counter tops, and other standard residential woodwork storage and surfaces.

    Key responsibilitiesof this position include:

    • Performing skilled cabinet work.
    • Manufacturing and installing counter tops.
    • Performing door and window carpentry.
    • Performing standard carpentry and structural repairs to buildings and residences.
    • Performing interior carpentry finishing work.
    • Performing foundation masonry assignments, as directed.
    • Performing sidewalk, driveway, and related concrete repairs and installations as directed.
    • Performing standard clean-up tasks at the completion of work projects.
    • Performing basic cost and material estimating for routine work assignments or projects.
    • Constructing, repairing, and designing miscellaneous wood or structural items such as wheelchair ramps, office furniture, and table tops.
    • Leading and instructing lesser skilled carpentry and structural staff in performing carpentry assignments.
    • Maintaining and submitting accurate and complete work documentation.
    • Performs miscellaneous shop and maintenance duties as assigned, such as standard shop housekeeping and tool maintenance.

    The ideal candidate for this job will have:

    • A High School diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.
    • Threetofive years of work experiencecarpentry, framing, cabinet making, cornices, and concrete.
    • A valid and current driver's licenseand satisfactory driving record.
    • RAM set license or ability to obtain such a license.
    • Personal carpentry hand tools.
    • The ability to lift 30 to 60 pound objects, alone or with assistance.

    NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.

    NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The current full pay range for the Carpentry and Structural Specialist is from a minimum of $37,440.00 to a maximum of $42, The compensation offer will be determined by the candidate's work history and skill set. Benefits include retirement, health, dental, vision, life insurance, and tuition reimbursement, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and more

    NRHA offers a total of $3,000 in bonus payments to new hires in this position. A 90-day employment period is required to qualify for the full bonus amount.
