SUMMARY OF COMPANY

Southwest Shipyard, LP provides gas freeing and cleaning services, steaming, and flaring services, Barge and boat repair, Surface preparation and painting, water treatment and new construction services to the commercial and government marine industry. Southwest Shipyard owns and operates four (4) shipyards in South Texas with direct deep-water access to the Gulf of Mexico. Classification:

Hourly / Non-Exempt
Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities are to perform structural fitting functions with following objectives:
Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned.
Work safe and maintain a safe working environment.
Notify foreman or supervisor of any safety and/or structural issues as warranted.

Duties:

Duties include, but are not limited to:
Lays out, positions, aligns and fits together fabricated structural steel plate according to customer specifications and direction from Foreman/Supervisor.
Required to move parts into position, manually, by hoist or crane, and align parts, using jacks, etc.
May be required to remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and/or cutting torch, as well as give directions to the welder to build up low spots or short pieces.
May, at times, be required to tack weld, as necessary.
Consults with foreman or supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair and/or installation
Attend safety meetings as required
Maintain a safe working environment
Other duties as assigned

Education, Experience and Training:

Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred, but not required)
Be able to perform simple paper work as required for filling out forms and logs.

Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to communicate and take directions from Foreman & Supervisor.
Must have good judgment skills, and a highlevel work initiative;
Must be able to work independently, without direct supervision;
Must be able to meet strict attendance requirements

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

Barge chemical environment. Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing, and the ability to lift and carry in access of 120 lbs, assisted.

e:
heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside.
