Duties & Responsibilities:


  • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide diagnostic psychiatric evaluation and ongoing psychiatric medication management, under supervision of the Medical Director.
  • Provide psychiatric case management support to Clinical, Psychology, and Neurocognitive team members.
  • Initiate requests for laboratory studies as needed. Identify normal and abnormal findings, interpret, and initiate medication alterations or followup treatment as indicated.
  • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will conduct patient psychiatric/medical teaching consistent with Caron's program description and approved policies and procedures.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and teach patients the use of medications according to approved medication regimens and protocols.
  • Initiate appropriate evaluation and emergency management for all psychiatric emergency situations.
  • Provide coverage as assigned by Medical Director for physical medicine needs, including but not limited to History & Physical assessments, sick visits, and selfinjurious behavior and blind weight checks.
  • The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will complete patient exit interviews based upon facility protocols.
  • Attend department meetings and trainings as directed by the Medical Director.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned by the Medical Director.
  • Initiate and maintain timely, accurate documentation of all services rendered.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Degree with certification from a nationally recognized certifying agency such as ANCC or AANP.
  • Minimum Master's level education with certification in Psychiatry/Mental Health.
  • Current valid license in the State of Florida as a Nurse Practitioner or Licensed Registered Nurse
  • 5 years Nurse Practitioner experience in a mental health setting.
  • Addictions Nursing Certification preferred
  • Current DEA registration, or eligibility with agreement to obtain registration within 1 year of hire.
  • If in recovery, 2 years of continuous sobriety preferred.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:


  • Microsoft Office
  • Excel / Power Point / Word.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of Caron Programs.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of all aspects of licensing / accreditation procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform/coordinate multiple assignments and tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact professionally with patients, referral sources and the public.
  • Must be able to function with mínimal supervision.
  • CPR Certification

COMPETENCIES / MEASUREMENTS:


  • Assures psychiatric diagnoses and treatments are consistent with established and acceptable standards of practice.

Measured by random sampling of chart reviews for:
orders, psychiatric assessments, reassessments, and progress notes.

  • Assures qualified personnel provide a level of medical excellence. Measured by the maintenance of applicable licensure, certification, and registration. Maintenance of applicable CEU requirements.
  • Proficient in providing psychiatric care as it relates to addiction and addictions treatment. Able to assess and treat cooccurring disorders, such as psychiatric comorbidity, active eating disorders, chronic pain, and relapse issues.
  • Required CEU hours to maintain nurse practitioner certification.
  • Routine attendance at inhouse staff education events and training, as well as departmental meetings.
  • Observation and review by Medical Director, Medical Administration, physicians, and nurse practitioner(s).
