General Contractor in Newport News, VA is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator who is committed to performing and maintaining the quality work standards established by Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc.

Description and Responsibilities:


The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment to the quality and safety standards established by Hampton Roads Contracting, Inc.

Additionally, some manual and semi-skilled labor and other assignments may be required.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect equipment/machinery for safe daytoday operation and for general maintenance needs.
  • Clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by management and company policies and procedures.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, forklifts, excavators, aerial equipment, and other heavy construction/maintenance equipment.
  • Perform excavating and grading.
  • Interact with construction general laborers and/or crew members who are facilitating alignment, movement, and adjustment of the equipment to complete the specifications for the construction project.
  • Execute daily work instructions received from supervisor in a timely manner.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:


  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Class A CDL preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction plans.
  • Substantial experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work long hours.
  • Significant knowledge in the safe practices of operating heavy equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve in a fastpaced environment while maintaining a positive attitude and demeanor.
  • Ability to set up and operate a site level.
