    Position Summary Information

    Position Purpose

    The Specialist will develop and implement activities, programs and key academic support services to Act 101 Program students which contribute to enhancing the overall Act 101 student experience. The Specialist is responsible for other assignments and duties required to fulfill University or departmental goals and objectives.

    Description of Duties
    • Demonstrate thorough decision making and concrete knowledge of the PA Act 101 Program and PHEAA-Act 101 Program Guidelines.
    • Serve in the capacity of an academic counselor and coach to Act 101 Program students; may serve EOP students. Students may be assigned on a case management basis.
    • Contribute to the selection and enrollment of Act 101 students and their orientation to college. Key provider in helping first-year students persist.
    • Contribute to key academic support areas, such as educational programming, monitoring course selection, academic progress, mentoring, tutoring and overall student engagement.
    • Partner and collaborate with staff/faculty regarding academic advisement, career counseling and financial aid literacy to students.
    • Engage in professional development and best practices for serving Act 101 identified populations.
    • Collaborate on training and development for Peer Mentors.
    • Prepares periodic student engagement reports.
    • Partner with academic advisors, Student Success Specialists, coaches and others who help to achieve successful Act 101 Program student outcomes.

    • Consult with the Act 101 assistant director regarding students' feedback and suggestions for improving or enhancing academic support services.
    • Collaborate with the TEAM and contributes to the collective TEAM's decision-making.

    Minimum Requirements Profile
    • Bachelor's Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, college student development or other relevant field; Master's degree strongly preferred
    • Minimum of 3 years working in higher education with pre-college/college access and opportunity programs or other relevant experience
    • Knowledge of educational disparities faced by BIPOC, minority and low-income students
    Preferred Qualifications

    At least 3 years working with a diverse college student population.

    Background Clearances

    Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
