    Job Summary/Basic Function
- :An important role that ALLARM plays for communities is ensuring that community science techniques are accessible for volunteers and rooted in strong science. The ALLARM staff scientist will work with the ALLARM team to maintain the organization's scientific integrity and credibility through research and resource development. They will also develop and implement community and college resources, in collaboration with the team and supervising student staff.
This is a two-year appointment, future employment contingent upon grants.

Essential Functions:

  • Research and develop resources that strengthen ALLARM's aquatic science methodology for engaging volunteer monitors in all steps of the scientific process to do water quality monitoring, data interpretation, and data use, compare approaches within the field, and identify recommendations to strengthen the program.
  • Collaboratively work with the ALLARM team to develop new technical assistance resources. Create educational resources, workshops, monitoring methods manuals, quality assurance project plans, and educational resources.
  • Provide technical and programmatic support to 12 of ALLARM's community partners and/or Stream Team volunteer scientists.
  • Conduct analysis (R/RStudio, GIS) on data generated by volunteer scientists to support the data interpretation experience.
  • Supervise ALLARM student research team.
  • Foster collaborations with faculty in and out of the classroom to provide opportunities for curriculum enhancement and faculty involvement.
  • Participate in and represent ALLARM in regional partnerships/coalitions (e.g. National Fish & Wildlife Foundation' Restoration Monitoring Program, Consortium for Scientific Assistance to Watershed and/or Chesapeake Monitoring Cooperative).
  • Support grant and report writing.

Preferred Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor's Degree - Aquatic science, geoenvironmental science, environmental science, chemistry, or biology.
Valid Driver's License
3-5 years work experience

A valid Driver's Licence is required. Employees (operators) must have been in possession of a valid operator's license for not less than three (3) years and the license must have been in good standing without interruption during that time period.
