Description

The Homebuilders program is an evidence-based model which has been rated as a well-supported family preservation program by the Title IV-E Prevention Services Clearinghouse.

Emphasis is on child safety and keeping the family together.

The Homebuilders Intensive Family Services Counselor works intensely with a small caseload (2-3 families) whose children are at risk of out-of-home placement or in need of extra support for reunification and is responsible for providing crisis intervention, counseling, skill building, and advocacy services to identified families.


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned, as needed):

  • Meets with assigned families 3-5 times a week, approximately 10 hours per week, over a time period of 4-6 weeks, serving an average of 18-22 families annually.
  • Provides services in client homes and other locations, on a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends and adheres with oncall responsibilities
  • Assess safety, structure the environment, and use strategies designed to promote safety and follows program guidelines and mandatory reporting statutes when responding to safety concerns
  • Conduct clientinteractive, comprehensive, strength and behaviorfocused assessments
  • Collaborate with family members and referants in developing intervention goals and service plans directly related to the risk of outofhome placement.
  • Monitor progress, analyze barriers to goal achievement, and help families revise goals or plan, as needed
  • Utilize motivation enhancement strategies to increase client motivation to change
  • Provide a range of therapeutic, concrete, and advocacy services to family members that are consistent with the Homebuilders model and tailored to each family?s values, learning styles, lifestyle, circumstances, and culture
  • Utilize researchbased cognitive and behavioral strategies to facilitate behavior change
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods to help families acquire, maintain, and generalize skills
  • Collaborate and advocate with formal and informal community resources and systems, while teaching family members to advocate for themselves
  • Assess goal attainment and plan for maintenance of progress with family
  • Complete and submit all paperwork in an accurate and timely fashion
  • Utilize online data management system for all documentation
  • Maintain positive working relationships with the respective state?s child welfare agency staff and others in the community
  • Demonstrate flexibility with working hours outside of the normal business hours to meet the needs of the role to include some evenings and weekends, as needed
  • Models appropriate and professional behavior (i.e. dress, habits, personality, tact, etc.)
  • Relates with clients, parents, peers, and the general public in a respectful and professional manner with all interactions
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Requirements:

BA/BS degree in Social Work, Human Services, or equivalent field of study from an accredited college with two (2) or more years of experience working with children and families within the child welfare, family preservation and stabilization systems:

  • Have or obtain child welfare case management certification within six months of employment
  • Demonstrates excellent assessment, therapeutic and crisis intervention skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Work well under pressure and adaptable to change
  • Must have an ability to work flexible work hours to include some evenings and weekends
  • Active motor vehicle license and a reliable automobile with adequate insurance coverage

$846.15 / $1,000 / week
Salaried, non-exempt position to include evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities, paid using the Fluctuating Work Week method of payment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee will be required to talk, hear and see; ability to manipulate objects with hands/fingers.
