    The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Vanderbilt University invites applications for renewable 9-month-appointment, non-tenure-track faculty positions as Assistant Professor of the Practice in chemical and biomolecular engineering with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2024. We seek exceptional applicants who have a passion for teaching and curriculum development across many areas impacted by chemical engineering. Appointments at higher rank will be considered depending on the experience of the applicant.

    Two positions are available: one with primary duties in teaching a year-long capstone senior design sequence and an associated safety course, the other in teaching chemical engineering laboratory courses and an associated technical communications course. Both provide opportunities for curriculum development and innovation. Additional roles to be filled by these Professor of the Practice positions, depending on interests and experience, can include serving as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the department, the Chair of the Accreditation Committee for chemical engineering, and an academic adviser to undergraduate students.

    Job Description:

    Assistant Professor of the Practice #1 )


    • will teach ChBE 3900W and ChBE 4900W, which comprise the undergraduate laboratory sequence in chemical engineering.


    • will incorporate statistical analysis and safety awareness in laboratory experiments


    • will develop new laboratory modules, incorporating new fields to update content


    • will teach ChBE 2900W, a one-credit spring semester course that develops student skills in written and oral communication of technical information, in support of laboratory and design courses taken later in the curriculum


    • will prepare self-assessment materials for ChBE 2900W, ChBE 3900W, and ChBE 4900W to be used for course improvement


    • will bring specific areas of interest into the ChBE curriculum through opportunities in laboratory experiments, an elective course, an introductory engineering module, or a topical seminar course


    • will assist in student advising and decisions on course offerings for the department


    • will attend faculty meetings (roughly biweekly) to participate in discussions on curriculum development, student awards, and other departmental business


    • will promote a welcoming, inclusive environment where all students
