The state of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services and New Hampshire Hospital has a full-time vacancy for a Laundry Worker III.


Summary:

When the supervisor is out, supervises the daily activities of staff engaged in support services work in the laundry area.

Performs support services work on a routine basis assigned to the laundry.


Minimum Qualifications:


Education:
Completion of eighth grade or its equivalent


Experience:
One year's experience in a commercial or institutional laundry.


License/Certification:

May be required to possess a valid driver's license in the state in which the employee resides, with appropriate endorsements required for the type of vehicle being operated.

Must possess or successfully complete a Defensive Driving Course as approved by the New Hampshire Safety Council within the first six (6) months of employment.

As a condition of and prior to hire, the applicant must have verified their current New Hampshire driving record supplied by the Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles indicating no major traffic violations.


Responsibilities:


  • During Supervisor's absence, supervises activities of workers in department to ensure productivity and quality standards are met.
  • Trains new personnel as directed by supervisor. Acts as mentor to new staff in area with particular emphasis on proper procedures and safety regulations.
  • Operates machinery appropriate to work area such as ironers, dryers, folders, presses, and washers. Demonstrates knowledge for safe use of equipment, reports breakdowns and safety concerns to supervisor. Makes simple repairs as directed, cleans, and maintains all equipment used. Cleans and sanitizes work area, patient, and nonpatient areas.
  • Performs a variety of laundry services tasks including sorting of soiled linen and clothing; separating food and fecal matter when present; checking for any personal items left in pockets; following procedures for return of valuables; counting, inventorying, marking, assembly, bagging, folding, and delivering of clean linen and clothing.
  • Answering telephones and giving or obtaining information in response to routine questions from employees of other departments within the hospital.
  • Removes contaminated and noncontaminated waste from work area(s) and disposes of in prescribed manner. Follows appropriate safety and/or health standards as defined by department procedures. Cleans by using dry mops, wet mops, vacuums, and brooms and sanitizes work area.
  • Maintains proper supply level for assigned area of responsibility. Replaces supplies and stocks work area with appropriate products, informs Supervisor when items require reordering.
  • When requested, reports quantities of all work completed, and any staff related issues to supervisor.
  • Attends any supervisory staff meetings as scheduled and assists in communicating departmental policies, procedures, standards or issues to new employees. During and after normal shifts, responds to emergency situations when requested by administration.

Complies with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures by:

  • Performing accountabilities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Communicating with supervisors relating to workplace safety, i.e. ergonomics, body mechanics, environment, equipment, etc.
  • Reporting on the job injuries and accidents to supervisor, IMMEDIATELY. Attending training programs or inservices as appropriate.
