Definition:


  • Under general supervision, performs both custodial and/or maintenance duties at assigned City recreation buildings and facilities; performs the physical setup and breakdown for events held at City recreation facilities; opens and secures recreation buildings and facilities, and performs related duties as required.


This recruitment is to establish a qualified list to fill two (2) part-time positions within the Recreation and Community Services Department.

The City of Lynwood is seeking a Laborer (Recreation Facility/Special Events Attendant) to join our Parks and Recreation team and help maintain our facilities and ensure the safety of our patrons.

FILING DEADELINE

WORK SCHEDULE
This is a non-benefited, at-will part-time position. Temporary/seasonal/part-time employment status does not qualify for City benefits, except for those required by law.

Part-time shifts may not exceed 28 hours per week, 125 hours a month, and 960 hours in a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30).

Part-time positions are "at-will".

There are no rights to employment and employment may end at any time with or without cause or advance notice.

Working hours to be assigned at the discretion of the Recreation and Community Services Department.

ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:


The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to provide a representative list of the various types of work that may be performed.

Performs a variety of custodial duties including, but not limited to, cleaning floors, carpets, windows, tables and other furniture; cleans restrooms and keeps them supplied; operates buffers, vacuum cleaners and other custodial equipment; sweeps paths and sidewalks; and removes refuse/debris; assists in setup of tables and chairs and audio visual equipment or reconfiguration of a room set-up; uses and cleans basic tools used for work assignments; may be asked to operate City vehicles; assist with Citywide events and other programs when needed and other duties when assigned; working hours may require irregular hours, various shifts, weekends, holidays and/or on-call status.


Qualifications:


Knowledge of:

City organization, operations, policies and procedures;

Methods and equipment used;

Safety practices applicable to laborer work.

Ability to:Perform a variety of physical labor involving strength, dexterity and coordination;

Operate machinery such as vacuum, sweeper, buffer, or other similarly sized equipment;

Maintain simple records and make oral and written reports;

Follow safety practices and recognize safety hazards;

Follow written and oral instructions;

Learn the appropriate work methods and techniques in the assigned event or program;

Read and write at the level required for a successful job performance;

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.


Requirements:


  • Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

Experience:
Prior experience in custodial/maintenance is desirable.


Education:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license issued by the California State Department of Motor Vehicles and a good driving record.


PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:


While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; ascend and descend stairs; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or running; move about on hands and knees; bend body downward and forward, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles; reach with hands and arms; speak and hear; and push, pull and/or lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.


  • The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Incumbents in this classification typically work at recreation facilities (parks) where there may be extreme temperatures, exposure to sun, dirt and/or dust and on occasion in a normal office environment.
