  • Founded in 1965, the Montessori Center School of Santa Barbara (MCS) is an independent school and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a rich history of preparing students ages 18 months through 6th grade for academic excellence using the worldrenowned Montessori Method. An American Montessori Society member school, MCS fosters independent, selfmotivated, confident lifelong learners, who will become positive forces to care for and transform our world. The school is located on a beautiful garden campus in Goleta, California, and serves 220 children.

About the Opportunity

  • MCS is a vibrant and growing community of children, educators, current families and alumni.
The Community Engagement Coordinator will support the work of fostering strong and lasting connections and commitment among our MCS families:
family-to-school, family-to-teacher and family-to-family.

An adept project manager, event planner and communicator, this team member will bring passion for and experience in bringing families and students together through inspiring experiences, traditions and communications.


Functional Roles & Responsibilities

  • The Community Engagement Coordinator will hold the following responsibilities and duties:
Event Planning & Management (60%)

  • Engage families by owning and driving the seamless planning and successful execution of all major schoolwide events including but not limited to BacktoSchool Open House, New Family Welcome Reception, BacktoSchool Night, the annual benefit auction gala, jogathon, new family reception, trivia night, staffulty holiday party, admissions info nights, UN Day, the Halloween parade, STEAM Night, our MCS Sixtieth Year Anniversary Event, "party books," MPO events and parent education programming. Leverage each school event to build community engagement by working in lock step with the school leadership team, staffulty and families to deliver great communications and a great student, family and employee experience with each event.
  • Program Operations (40%)
  • Manage the field trips and experiential learning calendar across all program levels. Support teachers' planning and execution of great field trips and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Support the vision and strong program operations for summer camps and afterschool extracurricular programs. Ensure a broad and indemand slate of camp and afterschool class offerings.
  • Teamwork (All the time.)

  • Seek out and embrace opportunities for collaboration with colleagues across the school in a manner that engenders strong levels of inclusivity and belonging among all team members. Be an active participant in the life of the staffulty by maintaining open lines of positive and clear communication with your teammates, regularly preparing for and participating in monthly level team and allstaffulty meetings, and sharing constructive feedback with colleagues through appropriate channels to help us all grow and improve at our work.
  • Engage in regularly scheduled and ad hoc learning and development coaching sessions with your direct manager (Head of School). Participate in professional development trainings (inhouse and external) and other opportunities to grow and skillbuild in your professional capacity.

Qualifications:

Experience & Professional Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree from a fouryear college or university
  • 2+ years experience managing events for a school, nonprofit or similar organization
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills

Compensation

  • This is an hourly, nonexempt fulltime position 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Compensation for this position is competitive and commensurate with a starting hourly rate for experienced applicants ranging from $25.00 to $32.00.
