General Description:

The Sinopec UOP Joint Research Center operations team has an opening for an R&D Technician located in Katy, Texas.

This position's main responsibility is to support JRC scientists and engineers in the research and development of new petrochemical processes using our unique pilot plant, microreactor, and lab capabilities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Compliance with site HSE safety policies and procedures.
  • Carry out assigned test plans with mínimal supervision in collaboration with JRC scientists and engineers and by using established procedures.
  • Maintaining and calibrating process equipment (pumps, meters, valves, etc.) to ensure ongoing data quality.
  • Fluid processing equipment operations and maintenance (leak checking and tubing installation/maintenance)
  • Carefully handle sensitive/fragile equipment such as large glassware or analyzers
  • Troubleshooting equipment problems based on observation or unexpected test results.
  • Interpret data generated by sophisticated online data acquisition systems and complex analyzers including Gas Chromatographs.
  • Coordinate offline sample collection and submission to onsite analytical personnel.
  • Record observations and setup data collection tools; including Excel spreadsheets, GC processing software, and offline analytical systems.
  • Support and participate in MOC design and implementation process.
  • Participation in reoccurring team and site meetings

Expected Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and good housekeeping behaviors
  • Ability to demonstrate troubleshooting during common process technology scenarios.
  • Able to safely handle all types of common petrochemicals based on SDS, industry best practices, and site HSE guidelines including flammables, corrosives, and toxic gases using PPE and engineering controls.
  • Safely accomplish multiple tasks on time and within budget.
  • Should be mathematically inclined enough to independently perform basic calculations and then analyze process data in furtherance of R&D chemical process technology development.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Visio or other similar CAD tool preferred.
  • Preference given for experience working with typical industrial catalog vendors such as McMaster/Grainger/Swagelok, machine shops, electrical/electronic vendors, and chemical/lab supply vendors like Airgas/Fischer/Aldrich
  • Able to lift 35lbs.
  • Outside 1st shiftwork may be required.

Minimum Education, Credentials, Licenses and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree majoring in chemistry, engineering, or related science with 1yrs applicable experience -or
- an associate's degree in process technology with 3yrs applicable R&D experience -or

  • 5yrs equivalent industry work experience
  • Hazardous chemical handling experience (drum quantities and smaller).
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
