Job Summary:


The Editorial Assistant is responsible for obtaining an understanding of the publishing business and providing administrative assistance for the Love Inspired inspirational romance publishing programs.

A front-line contact for the Editorial team and assists in positively portraying the company to external sources.

Responsibilities

  • Completes first screen for all "slush" manuscripts and query letters submitted, identifies and forwards any worth further consideration.
  • Coordinates transfer of materials to other company departments as required.
  • Acts as frontline contact for the editorial team by screening requests or messages from external parties such as answering queries from authors/agents, unsolicited authors/agent calls, providing information when known or referring to the proper source and participating in pitching events.
  • Provides administrative assistance to the editorial team by creating, updating and/or maintaining internal systems; generating reports; requesting materials from contracted authors such as title suggestions, art fact sheet information, and social media content; coordinating deadlines for the team, scheduling meetings as required.
  • Provides editorial assistance to the editorial team by preparing reader reports and revision letters, writing and revising back cover copy, and with direction, reviewing copy editing and author approval/alterations.
  • Provides assistance to team as needed to back imprint strategy and growth.

Qualifications

Specific training or job experience required includes:

  • Undergraduate degree in English
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Postsecondary publishing Diploma is an asset
  • Oneyear experience in the publishing industry is an asset
