    Description

    General Overview

    Work under general supervision in charge of the routine wastewater treatment process at a treatment plant.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assign, supervise, and review work related to wastewater treatment.
    • Supervise shift operators and coordinate wastewater pumping and treatment.
    • Ensure optimal plant operations for energy efficiency, especially during rain events.
    • Oversee the collection of process samples and recommend process changes.
    • Coordinate plant maintenance schedules and complete necessary written assignments.
    • React efficiently to treatment plant upsets and emergencies.

    Other Responsibilities

    • Conduct special sampling and treatment evaluation programs.
    • Available for operational decisions and emergencies during non-working hours.
    • Perform trend analysis and tasks in the Distributed Control System (DCS).
    • Conduct tours and other assigned duties.

    Environmental Conditions

    Role may include exposure to operating mechanical equipment, noise, and noxious odors. Work in various weather conditions.

    Desired Skills and Knowledge

    • Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
    • Knowledge of wastewater treatment standards and mechanical pumps.
    • Familiarity with laboratory devices and safety practices.
    • Ability to make decisions based on operational parameters and environmental conditions.
    • Proficiency in preparing detailed operating reports.

    Requirements

    • Certification as a Class 1 wastewater treatment facility operator by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
    • High school diploma or equivalent and six years of wastewater treatment plant operations experience.

    Substitution Options

    • Full-time study in engineering or science may substitute required experience.
    • Completion of a wastewater treatment program may substitute for experience.
    • Completion of wastewater treatment plant operations courses may substitute for required experience.

    Promotional Requirements

    • Two years of service as a Treatment Plant Operator II with the District.
    • Civil service status as a Treatment Plant Operator II.
