    JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Stormwater/Streets Supervisor, performs skilled work in construction and maintenance activities and services. The Maintenance Worker II-Stormwater/Streets must consistently perform senior level, skilled work on City Right of Ways and Properties. May also obtain Herbicide ROW and Aquatic spray license if so desired.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in laying pipe and operating pipe handling equipment.
  • Assists in brick, masonry and cement work construction, repairs catch basins, vaults, curbs, and gutters and performs other general cement and brick work, performs specialized mechanical procedures, and keeps written records of materials used.
  • Performs a variety of skilled carpentry, painting and manual work incidental to construction and maintenance activities.
  • Operates power mowers, medium tractors, backhoes, air compressors, power saws and other equipment of the trade efficiently and safely.
  • Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.
  • Assist in street paving, installing signs and traffic markings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, pieces of equipment and materials used in Public Works general maintenance, utility and road construction.
  • Skill in demonstrated safe use of all hand tools and equipment in performance of all work tasks.
  • Ability to operate trucks, concrete saws, chain saws, backhoes, and other pieces of equipment of the trade.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions and be accident free.
  • Ability to complete daily work records accurately as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Education and Experience:


High school diploma or GED certificate with two (2) years' experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Special Qualifications:


Must possess a current state of Florida Class "B" CDL driver's license with an 'N' Tanker Endorsement or possess a Class "B" CDL driver's license temporary permit by the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles and successful licensure within 120 days of employment.

Class A CDL is preferred but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is generally heavy and may require exerting up to 100 pounds of force rarely, 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects.

  • Hearing: Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  • Kneeling: Ability to frequently bend legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift and move objects
  • Mental Acuity: Ability to make rational decisions.
  • Pulling / Pushing: Ability to occasionally move objects up to 100 pounds.
  • Reaching: Ability to frequently extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Speaking / Talking: Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and concisely through speech.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Stooping: Ability to frequently bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, operating motor vehicles; including color, depth perception, and field vision.
  • Walking: Ability to walk long distances to perform tasks and to move from one job site to another.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

Work may be performed in both in and out-of-door environments with exposure to the wind, rain, cold, and heat, extremely wet and cramped spaces.
