Job Summary:
Operates a motor vehicle throughout a geographical area on public roads and or on a military installation for long and short trips to transport mail and supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates a motor vehicle i.e.
pick-up truck sedan carry-all up to and including pounds to transport mail personnel articles and materials throughout the geographical area and or on public roads for long trips.
Assures the safety of passengers or cargo to destination. Completes trip tickets and driver accident reports.- Completes pre and post trips inspection reports and performs preventive maintenance on assigned vehicle or vehicle being utilized for that days work.
- Loads and unloads vehicle using handcart palletjack or forklift etc. ensuring care is taken to prevent damage. Installs merchandise in customers homes. Signs for and obtains receipts. Notes over short or damaged merchandise.
- Picks up delivers and distributes mail merchandise to various Navy Exchange locations. Collects payment and makes change as necessary.
- May pick up and transport miscellaneous supplies money bags advertising flyers documents etc. to various locations on military installation.
- Observes all sanitary safety fire and traffic regulations.
- May be required to perform clerical support tasks in a specific operational office area.
- Exercises tact and courtesy when assisting and dealing with customers.
- Works under the general supervision of designated supervisor. Driver s ability is regularly observed and evaluated. Vehicle is intermittently spotchecked for proper maintenance and or abuse. Trip tickets are checked for compliance with regulations and completeness. Work is reviewed for timeliness and compliance with established procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Secret clearance is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light physical effort is used in operating the controls of the vehicle and moderate effort may be required in frequent handling or lifting objects weighing 40 lbs or ocassionally heavier with assistance.
Moderate physical effort may be required in making couplings between the vehicle and towed equipment hooks must be lifted and properly secured.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid state driver s license or a valid commercial driver s license CDL.
- Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.
TRAINING REQUIREMENT:
This position is covered by American Federation of Government Employees Local 3723 Union Agreement.
