Under direct supervision of the Hockey Director, plan, organize and implement day camp programs. Responsible for supervising children and providing a safe and enjoyable camp experiences for the participants. This is a seasonal position.

  • Work with the Hockey Director in daily leadership of the program.
  • Be prepared to initiate the daily activities.
  • Show compassion, concern and interest in the children when giving directions or explaining an activity.
  • To assist in the operation of camp activities and the safety of children at their camp location.
  • To assist with the planning, leadership and implementation of a variety of recreational activities, on and off the ice.
  • Supervise children at all times.
  • Keep campsite clean after various activities, including lunch. Keep all equipment and supplies in good working condition, also in a neat orderly fashion.
  • Keep supplies in order and refilled. Notify Hockey Director when supplies run low.
  • Take attendance daily at the required times.
  • Organize clean up times/lunch/activities/locker rooms and on ice.
  • Contact the Hockey Director with any attendance problems, notes or any concerns in general.
  • Stop and redirect behavior before it becomes problematic. Participate in all events with the campers.
  • Ensure all campers are tested prior to pool usage and assign swimming areas.
  • Create a list of indoor activities for rainy days.
  • Prepare lesson plans for weekly indoor and outdoor activities, and projects.
  • Direct children to proper places, bus, aftercare camp, locker rooms, rides, etc. and stay with the camper until they have been picked up by authorized persons.
  • Ensure that authorized pickup person signout each camper when picked up from camp.
  • On field trips, count the amount of campers on the bus and confirm the number matches that of the roster for the day. Also, confirm that you have the same number on your way back to IceLand.
  • Provide first aid when necessary (always have first aid pack with you).
  • Take transportation to trips and events provided by the Niles Park District.
  • Attend all meetings/events scheduled.
  • Complete CPR certification and first aid.
  • Assist with before and after care supervision if required.
  • Make sure campers do not use their phones in camp. They shouldn't even be out.
  • Always have eyes on the campers (Do not be on your phone)
  • Required to work July 4th Special Event

Requirements:

Must demonstrate good judgement when dealing with the public in keeping with the mission statement of the park district.

Must be able to follow policies and procedures.

Must use good safety awareness and judgement.

Must be able to respond effectively and quickly when problems and/or emergencies arise.

  • Display ideal behavior during camp hours. Follow all rules set for children.

  • Be alert to physical and emotional state of all children in your care.
  • Be a role model. Follow and set appropriate rules. Follow all rules required by campers.
  • Show enthusiasm, Sportsmanship, Teamwork and Respect.
