Since its founding in 2005 as a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Manhattan Charter School (MCS) has consistently achieved high levels of success.

In 2012, MCS opened Manhattan Charter School 2 (MCS2), a replication of MCS located a few blocks away, expanding on the groundwork laid by MCS and bringing high levels of academic achievement to more students.

The Assistant Principal plays a pivotal role in supporting the Principal in the effective management and operation of the school.

This position focuses primarily on overseeing daily operations, student behavioral management, and creating a safe and conducive learning environment.

Additionally, the Assistant Principal provides support to instructional leadership by collaborating with teachers on curriculum delivery, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operations and Administrative Management:
  • Assist the Principal in daily school operations, including scheduling, budgeting, and facility management.
  • Coordinate school events, extracurricular activities, and special programs to enrich the school experience for students.
  • Oversee standardized testing and assessment processes, ensuring compliance with state and district requirements.
  • Student Behavioral Management and Support:
  • Implement and enforce school policies, rules, and disciplinary procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Develop and implement proactive strategies and interventions to address student behavior, promote positive relationships, and maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and support staff to provide targeted interventions and support services for students with behavioral and socialemotional needs.
  • Instructional Support and Leadership:
  • Collaborate with teachers to improve instructional practices, curriculum delivery, and student engagement.
  • Observe classroom instruction, provide constructive feedback, and support professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of school improvement plans, focusing on enhancing instructional quality and student achievement.
  • Parent and Community Engagement:
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, providing updates on student progress, school events, and behavioral expectations.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, businesses, and local stakeholders to enhance educational opportunities and resources for students.
  • Attend school board meetings, parentteacher conferences, and community events to represent the school and promote positive relationships.
  • Professional Development:
  • Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay updated on current educational trends, research, and best practices.
  • Mentor and support new teachers and staff members, sharing expertise and facilitating their growth and development.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field.
  • Valid state administrative certification or license.
  • Minimum of 35 years of teaching experience, with demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of educational laws, policies, and best practices related to operations, behavioral management, and instructional leadership.
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to navigate school buildings and grounds, including stairs, hallways, and outdoor areas.
  • Capacity to sit, stand, walk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours as needed for school events or emergencies.
