We are seeking a
_CO_
_Patient Service Coordinator_ who will offer friendly, courteous, and confidential assistance to every patient to ensure that the patient has a positive experience while at Johns Hopkins.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinates visits either within the department or between several departments.
- Telephones and interviews patients and/or family members to obtain accurate preregistration information and to confirm appointments.
- Verifies and enters patient insurance information into Epic.
- Registers patients for clinical appointments using computerized database.
- Assists patients or family members with completion of medical insurance forms.
- Informs patients of costs of care being provided, and guides them to appropriate resources for further information, guidance, or assistance.
- Assists in arranging needed patient transportation.
- Collects time of service payments, issues receipts, and prepares cash settlement records.
- Assigns diagnostic and procedure codes to charge vouchers and enters charges in Epic.
- Assists in obtaining preauthorizations required by patients' health care insurers for medications and/or procedures.
- Discusses patient's charges, if appropriate, with patients and/or patients' family.
- Schedules patients for laboratory tests, medical examinations, procedures, surgeries and admissions. Resolves any schedule conflicts.
- Responds to requests for completion of various medical forms for patients such as MVA forms, Disability forms, Worker's Compensation forms, etc.
- Proactively seeks to schedule/reschedule patients to efficiently fill physicians' schedules.
- Scans medical record documents into Epic.
- Monitors patient Inbasket messages and replies to requests. Routes messages as needed to technicians and or physicians.
- Refers patients to appropriate office if financial counseling is necessary.
- Assists with basic insurance and thirdparty queries and explains payment policies.
- Assists with backoffice duties as needed to ensure consistent patient flow.
- Maintains appropriate level of office supplies and medical forms; orders additional stock in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One year work experience required in a similar serviceoriented industry.
- Excellent communication skills.
- At least average computer skills.
- Must possess problem solving and organizational skills as well as a strong personal and professional commitment to quality patient care and service excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years college or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Two years related ophthalmology/JHH system work experience strongly preferred.
- Medical terminology and knowledge of medical insurance coverage preferred.
