    City and Country School seeks a Lower School Psychologist for the 2024–2025 academic year, beginning in late August 2024.

    Job Description

    The Part Time Lower School Psychologist is a crucial member of the Lower School Student Support Team and is instrumental in fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for students' academic, social, and emotional growth within the lower school. This role involves providing social and emotional student support, collaborating with teachers and families, implementing interventions, and promoting a positive school culture that prioritizes students' overall well-being. The Lower School Psychologist works approximately 25 hours/week and reports directly to the Director of Lower School.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with the Student Support Team and teachers twice a week to monitor student development and progress; classroom observations of children to support this work
    • Observe and interact with children in classrooms for the purpose of advising the Student Support Team, teachers, and families
    • Lead supportive conversations and workshops for parents on developmental milestones
    • Provide individual and group sessions to support students in navigating personal challenges, developing coping skills, and enhancing self-esteem
    • Offer crisis intervention to students experiencing significant life events or emotional distress.
    • Together with the student support team, interpret neuropsychological test findings and provide recommendations for intervention plans, accommodations, and support services
    • Provide consultation and professional development and resources to support teachers' work with students
    • Coordinate with outside service providers, community resources, and mental health agencies to ensure coordinated support for students and families
    • Develop and implement division-wide programs, workshops, and initiatives aimed at promoting mental health awareness, positive behavior, and social-emotional learning
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of meetings with families, assessments, and interventions in compliance with ethical guidelines and legal requirements
    • Ensure adherence to state and federal laws related to student confidentiality, special education eligibility, and mental health services
    • Responsible for the CPSE process: support teachers to identify student needs, make recommendations to parents and support parents through the CPSE process, to include attending CPSE meetings
    • As needed, conduct psychological assessments to evaluate students' cognitive abilities, emotional functioning, and behavioral concerns
      • Doctoral or degree in School Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field
      • State licensure or certification as a school psychologist or licensed professional counselor (LPC) preferred
      • Experience with progressive education, its mission, and core values
      • Experience working with Lower School aged children in educational or clinical settings, with knowledge of child development, trauma-informed care, and mental health disorders
      • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues, and to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
      • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills for effectively supporting students' social-emotional well-being
      • Commitment to cultural competence, equity, and inclusion, with an understanding of how systemic factors impact students' mental health and educational outcomes
      • Dedication to ongoing professional development and staying current with research-based practices in school psychology and mental health support
