Krannert Center for the Performing Arts:

Duties & Responsibilities:
Production Support

  • Plan, safely implement, and effectively execute the technical stage elements of the touring productions of Krannert Center's Visiting Artist program as well as concerts, facility rental events, and other stage production work as assigned. This includes the supervision, scheduling, and coordination of extra help stagehand and student labor; discussion/negotiation with artists and clients regarding their needs; setting up, striking, and storing equipment; obtaining cost estimates, collaborating with KCPA Technical Direction Staff on complex stage events requiring rigging, automation or advanced skills, and related responsibilities.
  • Maintain inventory of inhouse supplies and equipment to proper safety standards, arranging for rental equipment as needed, and ensuring proper storage and handling of artist/client equipment.
  • Responsible for the management of resources, including decisions authorizing equipment use, special requests, and budget through consultation with the Director for Events and Krannert Center Technical Director.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Krannert Center Events Office and Krannert Center Production Shops to ensure all logístical and production aspects of assigned performances and events have been addressed.
Administrative Oversight

  • In consultation with the Director for Events, manage the extra help and student stagehand workforce, including initiating hiring of new employees, scheduling, direct supervision, and initiating disciplinary or termination action. Maintain all employee documentation.
  • Under the direction of the Krannert Center Technical Director, participate in communications with local I.A.T.S.E. stagehand union representatives regarding staffing and rules interpretation, ensuring consistent policy implementation venue wide.
  • Advise the Director for Events on visiting artist program budgets, the management of perishable supplies, and equipment inventory.
  • Act as a point of contact with touring artists.
  • Attend Events, Shop, and allstaff meetings, and participate on committees as a representative of the Events office.
Miscellaneous

  • Under the direction of the Krannert Center Technical Director and Scene Shop, participate in theatre maintenance and building projects, and implement safety procedures for work in these spaces.
  • Participate in other duties related to the educational mission of Krannert Center and its Resident Producers, such as supervising, mentoring, or providing classroom instruction to students in Theatre/Music/Dance department production classes and internships.
  • Participate in departmental objectives, long range planning, and leadership for special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in theatrical production working as a stagehand, theatre technician, or other related position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with fly systems and theatrical rigging, health and safety practices, and standard equipment and hardware used in theatrical environments.
  • Experience with computer drafting software; theatrical wood and steel construction; audio, lighting and video equipment and programming.
  • Experience in theatrical touring logistics.
  • Experience with database software.
  • Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated abilities in technical theatre.
  • Ability to communicate with and effectively organize theatrical work crews.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team environment.
  • Flexibility, resiliency, and the ability to operate with mínimal guidance.
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • A working knowledge of theatrical touring practices.
