Job Summary


Perform the detailed programming tasks and create quality designs to meet company needs, either through individual efforts or within a team environment.

Actively participate in the decision making process with IT management and team members and make recommendations to effectively implement project requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Education:
Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent, related experience.


Experience: - 4 years - or Associates Degree equivalent plus - 6 years.


Knowledge:
Complete understanding and knowledge of industry practices, standards, and concepts within field of work. Applies them to perform or lead work requiring extensive analytical business skills.


Supervision Received:
Works independently under general supervision. Work is reviewed for overall adequacy in meeting objectives.


Leadership:
May provide training and guidance to less experienced staff.


Problem Solving /Operations/Direct Work Involvement:
Develops solutions to a variety of problems, typically of moderate scope and complexity. Refers to and interprets policies and practices for guidance.


Client Contacts:
Contacts other departments and or external organizations or parties frequently. Contacts are primarily at or below middle management levels. Communication is primarily task-related and involves creating and delivering varied types of messages and information.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated mastery of the duties and responsibilities of the Programmer position, as outlined in that job description.

Understanding of object oriented design, and component based development (ILE).

Proven analytical, decision making, and problem solving abilities.

Thorough understanding of file normalization and data modeling techniques.

Effectively demonstrate architectural design ability.

Ability to organize and establish an efficient approach for assigned tasks.

Procedural development/workflow analysis experience.

Knowledge of systems and business functions of customer areas preferred.

Understanding of the business and technical elements of the insurance industry preferred.

Ability to provide estimates for project deliverables.

Ability to coach and direct staff.

Excellent interpersonal, presentation skills, and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Excellent listening skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Ability to manage group dynamics, facilitate effective team interaction and negotiate effectively.

Ability to multi-task, manage details, and execute effective follow through.

Providing timely status updates which are clear and concise.

Demonstrated dependability in a highly dynamic environment.

Experience with designing and developing via Use Case methodology and interactive system development.
