**Scenic Designer

    Help bring the world of Willy Wonka to life through scenic design and construction

The Scenic Designer works with the Director, Stage Manager, and Costume Designer to create a unified look for the world of the production that fits within the Director's vision and interpretation of the script.


We are looking for:


Part Time (Seasonal)- Several evenings during the week and weekend mornings as scheduled.


Pay rate:
$2,000.00 stipend


Essential Functions Include:


  • Work collaboratively with the Director, Music Director, Designers, and Production Team to serve the story and fulfill the concept/vision for the production and interpret the script
  • Collaborate with production staff to create a set that suggests the style and tone of the whole production, creates mood and atmosphere, gives clues as to he specific time and place of the story, and offers creative possibilities for the movement and grouping of the actors.
  • Works with Cultural Arts and Special Events Supervisor to stay within budget for all materials and building costs
  • Design the set so backstage areas used by actors and crew are accessible and kept out of sight from the audience, provide clearance for set pieces and props to enter and exit from offstage, and adheres to all safety guidelines and regulations
  • Set pieces such as furniture, curtains, set decorations must be included in the scenic design
  • Develop floor plans drawn to scale showing the layout of each scene and the placement of set pieces
  • Oversee the builders and volunteer builders throughout the loadin, build, strike, and loadout process.
  • Must be on site for all scheduled build calls.
  • Track the set materials budget
  • The Scenic Designer is responsible for leading loadin, build, strike, and loadout.

Requirements:


  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Previous scenic design and construction experience required
  • Advanced education or training in theatre, design, and/or production preferred
