    General Description:

    Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Activity Director is responsible for planning and directing a program of diversified activities for residents of the Facility. The activity program must meet the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial needs and well-being of each resident. The goal of the activity program is to provide mental and physical stimulation as well as to create an invigorating social atmosphere for the residents. This position requires knowledge of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents. Possesses a good knowledge of the organization and the techniques of a diversified program of meaningful, appropriate leisure time activities in an Assisted Living Facility. Possesses knowledge of the special needs of the aged, ill and/or disabled, as it relates to program development. Essential Duties

    1. Acts appropriately under the direction of the Executive Director and acts as an active member of the interdisciplinary team.

    2. Adjusts to changes in assignments to meet resident and family needs.

    3. Coordinates and encourages an active Volunteer Program. Verifies that Volunteers are knowledgeable of Facility policies and procedures, as well as, state and federal regulations. Assists in training, teaching and directing of volunteers and students.

    4. Directs other activity personnel in implementing activity programs and services at the Facility.

    5. Provides Department Heads with a schedule of planned activity programs and posts calendars in conspicuous locations that are easily accessible and legible to the residents and staff.

    6. Provides the Executive Director with a monthly statistical report of the number of planned activities and participates in in-service programs as appropriate.

    7. Maintains a system of records including information on residents, progress notes, attendance, discharge summaries, Resident Council meeting minutes, activity assessments and plans for each resident.

    8. Attends the Care Plan conferences and identifies problems and develops goals and approaches for inclusion on the resident's individual Care Plan.

    9. Conducts in-service programs related to activities policies and procedures for activities staff and Facility staff as appropriate.

    10. Interviews new residents upon admission to identify their needs and interest in various activity programs.

    11. Provides personal services for residents such as writing letters, mailing packages and transporting them to community events whenever necessary.

    12. Delegates assignments to activity staff for smooth functioning of activity programs.

    13. Decorates Facility with seasonal dcor, including holiday decorations.

    14. Performs various Quality Assurance audits and participates in the monthly Quality Assurance (QA) meetings.

    15. Requisitions equipment and supplies as necessary for activity programs. Conducts inventory audits and prepares yearly budget for Activities. 16. Performs light housekeeping tasks such as clean-up following parties and programs whenever necessary.

    17. Maintains established Activity standards under the direction of the Executive Director.

    18. Explores and utilizes available community resources applicable to residential health care Facility programs.

    19. Demonstrates good knowledge of activities program direction and supervision.

    20. Instructs and supervises others in the functions and techniques of the Activity program.

    Standard Requirements:

    2. Is knowledgeable of resident rights and supports an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of residents in a safe, secure environment.

    3. Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for: OSHA and safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.

    4. Adheres to: a. Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data. b. HIPAA regulations c. Quality Assurance requirements and compliance with regulatory requirements. d. Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and illegal and discriminatory behavior. e. Code of Conduct and Compliance Programs when performing job functions

    5. Supports and participates in common teamwork: a. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plans and completes job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment. b. Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations. c. Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns. d. Promotes positive public relations with residents, family members and guests. e. Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned. f. Participates as assigned in the orientation of new staff and demonstrates a positive, helpful, and enthusiastic attitude.

    6. Immediately reports incidents of alleged resident abuse or neglect or alleged violations of residents' rights to Executive Director.

    7. Maintains current practice standards or changes by participating in educational opportunities provided by the Facility and outside resources.

    8. Knowledgeable of age specific developmental factors specific to adult and geriatric residents in planning activities. Other Duties Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances. Performs other work duties as assigned.

    Qualifications Education/Training: One year experience in a geriatric care setting in providing or developing recreational or activity programs is required or two years experience in a geriatric health care setting. Education in occupational or recreational therapy may be counted for the experience. Must have current CPR and First Aid Certification. Experience: Previous long-term care and supervisory experience preferred. A.D.A ((Americans with Disabilities Act)(as amended))

    REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, and walk and stand for most of the working day. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as fax, telephone, etc. Requires normal range of hearing and vision. Must be free from communicable diseases that pose a "direct threat" to the health or safety of others and which cannot be eliminated by a reasonable accommodation. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds, and be able to carry and transport supplies. Must be able to pass a post-offer, preemployment physical health examination as a condition of employment. Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation(s).

    Skill(s): Must possess proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills; decision-making skills, basic computer skills; and be able to operate various medical and/or office equipment. Must demonstrate knowledge of safety techniques. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, and possess sufficient communication skills to perform the tasks required.
