Description
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Safety and Health Specialist-Trainee.
This announcement will remain active until a sufficient number of applications has been received and may close at any time.
Conducts safety and occupational health training and education programs for County employees, inspects and evaluates workplace environments to ensure they comply with local, state and federal regulations and recommends measures to protect workers and the general public from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
Conducts indoor air quality assessments in order to determine the best actions for maintaining indoor air quality in buildings or other areas where employees assemble and work.
Assesses County facilities by the use of inspections and the use of instrumentation in order to audit, process, and/or collect statistical data to identify trends, evaluate conditions and recommend appropriate corrective action.
Assists with various Safety and Occupational Programs; assists in industrial hygiene monitoring; oversees and coordinates Broward County's Occupational Vaccine Program.
Conducts ergonomic assessments to improve productivity, quality and safety and worker comfort by making practical ergonomic improvements in the workplace; conducts job hazard analysis to identify hazards and recommend steps to eliminate or reduce hazards to an acceptable risk level.
Receives loss notices regarding vehicle accidents throughout the month; enters accident information; acquires any additional information required to bring to the accident review committee for their review and vote.
Reviews and collects data for inclusion into the County's Risk Management Information System (RMIS) for statistical analysis and study in order to compile and form proactive actions, plans or programs.
Attends staff meetings, committee meetings, prepares for accident review committee meetings.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology, chemistry, health sciences, safety, engineering, risk management or closely related field.
General Description
Promotes, develops and manages the safety and occupational health of the employees of Broward County.
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology, chemistry, health sciences, engineering or closely r, occupational safety, risk management or closely related field.
Requires two (2) years anticipating, identifying, evaluating chemical, physical and biological hazards and performing instructional design and adult learning delivery related to environmental health and safety.
Must be able to fulfill the minimum job requirements of the associated job classification the employee is training for within a maximum of 2 years.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Develops and conducts safety and occupational health training and education programs; inspects and evaluates workplace environments to ensure they comply with local and federal regulations; recommends measures to protect workers and the general public from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
Investigates and analyzes accidents to identify root cause and recommend corrective actions.
Facilitates the Countywide Safety Committee, under the direction of the County's Facilitator program and facilitates for other agencies as needed.
Reviews, develops and implements occupational health and safety policies and related compliance programs; assists with various Safety and Occupational Programs; assists in industrial hygiene monitoring; oversees and coordinates Broward County's Occupational Vaccine Program.

Supervises the everyday evolution of performing local criminal background checks for new hires and volunteers; tracks employees' driver's licenses and citizen complaints regarding employee driving habits.
Receives loss notices regarding vehicle accidents throughout the month; enters accident information; acquires any additional information required to bring to the accident review committee for their review and vote.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical Demands
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Emergency Management Responsibilities
