Description
This is supervisory level technical electronic and instrumentation maintenance and repair work.

Employees in this class plan, direct and review the work of technicians and helpers who troubleshoot, modify, test, calibrate, adjust, repair, and install a wide variety of complex digital and analog equipment and instrumentation or supervise and review the work of technicians responsible for repairing and maintaining street lighting and traffic signal systems or fiber optic and wireless video surveillance and sound equipment.

Significant to the work is the planning and implementation of a preventative maintenance program. The employee is supervised by a technical superior.

    Minimum Training, Education & Experience

Street Electronic Systems Specialty

1. CIVIL
SERVICE
STATUS**:

Presently employed by the City of Philadelphia with permanent Civil Service status in the Streets Department with a performance rating of Satisfactory or higher.


AND
**2.


EDUCATION**:


  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade

AND

3. GENERAL
EXPERIENCE**:


Three years of experience with responsibility for the installation, maintenance, repair and inspection of the City's street lighting and alley lighting systems or the City's traffic signal systems.


AND

4. SPECIFIC
EXPERIENCE**:

Two years of experience as an Electronic Technician 2 in the Streets Department Traffic or Street Lighting programs.

OR

  • One year of experience supervising the repair, maintenance and installation of various types of street lighting fixtures or traffic signal equipment and appurtenances.

Physical & Medical Requirements

  • Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
    Required Licenses & Certifications
  • Possession of a valid general radio telephone operator's license issued by the Federal Communications Commission or a radio technician certificate issued by Association of Police Communication Officers or the National Association of Business, Education and Radio during tenure of employment as an Electronic Technician Group Leader, if required by work assignment.

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to and during tenure of employment, if required by work assignment.

Must be able to pass and maintain SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) and AOA (Airfield Operations Area) clearance for positions at the Airport.
