Job Description and Duties


With direction provided by the Assistant Deputy Controller for Public Affairs and the Deputy Controller for Public Affairs because of the critical nature of assignments and consequences of error, the Information Officer I (Spec) will perform difficult professional and technical tasks associated with the conduct of comprehensive internal and external communication programs to inform the public and staff of the activities and objectives of the State Controller's Office.

The incumbent works cooperatively with the Executive
Office, agency management and staff, division chiefs, the media, and the public.

  • The State Controller's Office is recruiting for an individual to fill a vacancy within the Public Affairs Office. The Public Affairs Office creates a connection between an organization and the community through public events, educational materials, and media relations. The office also provides liaisonrelated services between individuals, businesses, nonprofit entities, and/or government departments in general.
  • The State Controller's Office is a constitutionally established office with the responsibility of fiscal oversight of the expenditure of public dollars. The person selected for this position will work closely with the Deputy Controller for Public Affairs, while acting in a independent capacity assisting in conveying a messaging strategy across the department and other assigned venues, while facilitating and operating in a fastpaced, informationcentric office.

Desirable Qualifications
Excellent communication skills;

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in communication/outreach;
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or Political Science;
  • Functional knowledge of Public Administration;
  • Familiarity with the responsibilities of the California State Controller
