PARK SUPERINTENDENT


Kenosha County Parks proudly manages eight parks with 15 miles of multi-use trails, 1,500 acres of parkland, two beaches, three dog parks, 45 holes of disc golf, the Fox River Water Trail, historically accredited mansions and cultural facilities at Kemper Center, and hosts nearly 300 events and programming annually.

The Park Superintendent is a supervisory position that is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and operation of all park facilities and grounds that he or she manages.

2024 Hiring Range:
$67,234 - $80,040 annually


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the regional management of numerous parks, natural areas, and multiuse trails within the Kenosha County Parks System. Operational management may include the oversight of beach operations, recreational amenities, historic facilities, playgrounds, multiuse trails, hiking trails, prairies, boat launches, pavilion rentals, large scale events, recreational programming areas, nature center facilities, and dog parks.
  • Plans and supervises the maintenance and repairs to buildings within the parks.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, guides, and motivates staff in workrelated skills and customer service.
  • Coordinates, partners, and guides volunteers and summer youth work programs.
  • Attends seminars and classes to learn the most updated and relevant information.
  • In winter months, responsible for snow and ice removal.
  • Forestry, horticulture management, and plant identification.
  • Performs other work as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three years of progressive management experience
  • Five years of experience in park maintenance or related field
Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate Degree in Horticulture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in park maintenance
  • 5+ years of supervisory and leadership experience
Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (Class A with no airbrake restriction) must be obtained within 6 months of employment
  • Pesticide Applicator license must be obtained within 6 months of employment

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Flexible work hours with frequent weekend shifts, holidays, and oncall availability for emergency response
