Overview:

The position reports to the Associate Director of Operations for a division that has $6 million in product sales.

This is a low-volume, mixed-mode manufacturing environment producing research instruments and supplies since 1974. This role is responsible for overseeing purchasing operations but will also have responsibilities related to inventory management.

The Purchasing Manager will work closely with management and operational staff to make continuous improvements while remaining in compliance with regulatory requirements.


The role is focused on three primary directives:
-
Sourcing- collaborate with engineers and production to determine the materials needed to complete manufacturing projects according to specifications, research vendors for those materials, and submit RFQs.

Planning- collaborate with other operations team members to manage the overall value, movement, and planned purchases of inventory items.

Purchasing- Place orders with vendors and follow up with them on a regular basis to ensure receipt of goods.


Responsibilities:


Sourcing-

  • Use vendor management best practices to negotiate with and onboard new suppliers.
  • Review vendor performance and navigate searches for alternative vendors
  • Document and optimize the procurement strategy to align with business goals.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to best understand item specifications.
  • Create, issue and manage RFQs

Planning-

  • In collaboration with finance and inventory supervisor, manage physical inventory counts and valuations.
  • Establish written procedures and documents for conducting and valuing yearend physical inventory.
  • Analyze data related to item usage to make purchasing and stocking recommendations.
  • Review and make recommendations related to excess, slowmoving, and obsolete inventory.
  • Actively participate in weekly MRP review meetings to ensure that purchasing interests are represented and that supply needs match the sales forecast.
  • Maintains inventory levels to ensure deliveries occur within customer timelines.
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce transportation costs and charges.
  • Establish written procedures and documents for the creation of new items

Purchasing-

  • Maintain/manage item details such as min\max and reorder points.
  • Perform sourcing activities for all items
  • Prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications and price, while obtaining recommendations from suppliers.
  • Manage purchases by forwarding orders to suppliers and monitoring and expediting orders.
  • Keeps information accessible by sorting and filing documents.
  • Build ongoing vendor relationships

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Logistics or related field


Experience:


  • Overall work experience 23 years, experience in a manufacturing or similar production environment preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft office products
  • Minimum 1 year direct experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
