Qualifying Characteristics

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience preferred

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written command of the English language preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Excellent organizational skills

Duties

  • Vacuums, cleans, and maintain rugs and carpets
  • Cleans floors by sweeping, mopping, and scrubbing
  • Cleans, dusts, and polishes woodwork, desks, furniture, glass, and other items
  • Maintain restrooms clean and orderly throughout the day, before and after high use periods
  • Services soap dispensers, towel boxes, and similar containers
  • Maintain inventory of paper products, cleaning supplies, by properly ordering, stocking, storing, etc.
  • Empties and cleans trash receptacles and other refuse containers
  • Moves and adjusts chairs, desks, tables, supplies, furniture, and equipment
  • Removes spots and markings from floors, walls, woodwork, furniture, carpets, and fixtures
  • Washes and scrubs walls, lavatory fixtures, windows, drinking fountains, drains, lights, light fixtures, and painted surfaces
  • Operates power sweepers, vacuum cleaners and other power equipment
  • Inspects work upon completion of assigned schedule and completes any unfinished work
  • Routinely follows proper cleaning procedures and uses proper chemicals and cleaners safely, productively, and according to directions given in training
  • Routinely uses and operates cleaning equipment and tools safely and in accordance with the training instructions provided
  • Learns and utilizes new tools and technologies as needed
  • Attends training courses as required and responds to instructions both on the job and in training classes
  • Assists the COO in other matters of cleanliness and ongoing minor building maintenance
  • Responds and adheres to all safety policies and reports any operational concerns (e.g., ventilation systems, generator alarms, fire alarms, firefighting equipment, water leaks, fires, etc.)
  • Responds to immediate needs for cleaning and or safety assistance as requested by school staff or COO
  • Sets up and removes equipment (e.g. chairs, tables, portable walls, etc.) prior to and after activities
  • Reports facility preventative maintenance and repair requirements to the COO to ensure proper working order and appearance
  • Secures the building, as applicable, according to special schedules (ie., weekend shifts)
  • Maintains effective working relationships with other members of the custodial staff
  • Effectively works and communicates with students, faculty and staff, and visitors as necessary

Working Conditions

  • Working Environment: indoors in a comfortable temperaturecontrolled environment as well as outdoors in varied temperatures and weather conditions
  • Generally works in a group environment; noise level can range from low to high, especially during times between class periods
  • Requires standing for long periods of time; will include frequent walking and sitting
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, stand, make repetitive hand and body movements, simple grasping, fine and gross motor skills. Stand and walk while performing work
