    Summary:
    Dr.

    Ruth Brown and the HOPE Lab at the Virginia Institute for Psychiatric and Behavioral Genetics (VIPBG) and the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow.

    This position, supported by a multi-site grant, focuses on mental health and developmental regression in youth and adults with Down syndrome.

    The fellow will play a pivotal role in the HOPE Lab's mission to enhance mental health awareness, measurement, and service delivery for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).


    Key Responsibilities:
    Supervise and oversee the Research Coordinator, ensuring the effective implementation of the study on Down syndrome Regression Disorder.


    Engage in relevant professional development such as an advanced trainee in the Virginia Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disabilities (VA LEND) program, and/or Data Science.


    Lead data collection efforts, including medical records review, focus groups, and psychiatric clinical diagnostic interviewing for parents of youth and adults with Down syndrome.

    Conduct statistical analysis of both existing and incoming data sets.

    Write scientific papers and present findings at scientific conferences and other scholarly venues.

    Provide information talks and presentations of findings to community partners, including parent support groups for people with Down syndrome.

    Ensure adherence to IRB protocols, and liaise between the research team and IRB for compliance and updates.

    Coordinate and manage project tasks alongside the Research Coordinator, fostering a collaborative team environment.

    Provide mentorship and guidance to undergraduate research assistants and other junior team members.


    Minimum Requirements:
    PhD or equivalent terminal degree in psychology, neuroscience, public health, clinical research, or a related field.

    Demonstrated experience in human-subjects research, preferably within a clinical or academic setting.

    Strong leadership skills with experience in supervising teams and managing complex research projects.

    Proficiency in statistical analysis and familiarity with data collection platforms like REDCap or Qualtrics.

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse interactions and scientific dissemination.

    Commitment to diversity and inclusion in research settings.


    Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.


    Preferred Hiring Standards:
    Experience in interdisciplinary/interprofessional training programs, preferably related to developmental disabilities.

    Prior research or personal experience with Down syndrome or other IDD.

    Fluency in Spanish.

    Track record of published research and conference presentations.
