    A Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for performing, directing and supervising all aspects of mechanical engineering, including but not limited to HVAC, hydronic piping, and energy studies on multi-discipline building design projects of moderate to large scope for commercial and government facilities.

    General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    Performing all aspects of mechanical engineering design (specifically HVAC engineering and design) as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, including Conceptual Studies, Program Requirements, Design Analyses, Calculations, Equipment selection and layout, and System selection and layoutMeeting with clients to prepare and/or validate proposed scope of workProviding oversight and coordination of mechanical engineering projects and the mechanical engineering portion of multi-discipline projects, and working with assigned project managers to meet client's budget, contract fees, goals, objectives, and deadlinesCoordinating, supervising, and communicating all aspects of mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that mechanical design details integrate properly with all other disciplines represented on the design teamCommunication with the Contractor on Design-Build projects to verify suitability of systems selectedDirecting, supervising, training, and ensuring quality control of junior mechanical engineers and designersEnsuring staff compliance with quality control policies and proceduresManaging and supervising mechanical engineering support services during the bidding process, i.e., preparing addenda, amendments, open bids, tabulate bids, etc.

    Managing and supervising mechanical engineering construction phase services including representing the firm on-site, answering RFI's, reviewing shop drawings, preparing record drawings, etc.

    Coordinating with building commissioning services as requiredWorking with, responding to, and taking direction from Project Managers, Design Managers, Managing Principals, Operations Directors, and Senior ManagementWorking independently with limited direction, but collaboratively with other engineers and designersMentoring and monitoring the professional development of junior mechanical engineering staffAssist in presenting projects to clients, contractors, project team members, AHJ's, and members of the public through all stages of the projectActively support Company marketing and business development activitiesEstablish and maintain positive client relationshipsProvide technical guidance to mechanical staffAssisting Department Director and Department Head in developing new and/or revised processes and proceduresRepresenting the Department Head (DH) when the DH is unavailableLeading staff training sessionsProviding input to Department Head on staff annual performance reviewsProject responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Performing Project Manager duties as assignedServe in the role of Design Manager on projects as assignedResponsible for discipline design and documentation of building mechanical systemsDevelop discipline design approach and methodologyDevelop discipline project plan and production methodologyPreparing accurate, complete, and code-compliant mechanical drawings and specifications for schematic, design development, and construction document submittals.

    Design control P&ID's for monitoring of equipment and sequence of operation for systemsReviewing calculations and all work products produced by mechanical engineers and mechanical EI/EIT's assigned to the projectReviewing all drawings produced by technicians assigned to the projectPreparing scope and fee proposals for the mechanical portion of multi-discipline projects or single-discipline, mechanical-only projectsAssist MP and PM in development of project proposals, budgets & schedulesPerform discipline QA/QC reviews on assigned projectsReview and approve discipline code analysisDevelop discipline specificationsRespond to RFI's, Dr Check comments, etc.

    Visit the construction site to review installation and conformance, including punch listingBack-check discipline QC/gray team commentsAdhere to project budget and scheduleMay require domestic and foreign travelEducation, Technology, and ExperienceGraduate of an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering (Building design focus), Mechanical Engineering Technology (Building design focus), Architectural Engineering (Mechanical or HVAC engineering focus), or Architectural Engineering Technology (Mechanical or HVAC engineering focus)Post graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering will be given additional considerationMust be a fully licensed Professional Engineer in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction and NCEES registration is preferredUnderstanding of sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation preferredCertified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), or High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP) certifications are desirableOther ASHRAE certifications are desirableCertified in Plumbing Design (CPD) certification from ASPE is desirableAdditional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation processActive participation in NSPE, ASHRAE or other related professional organizations is desirableA Senior Mechanical Engineer should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management through the Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite.

    Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to understand the capabilities and limitations of the programs and interact with the support staff in their use of the software is highly desirable.

    A Senior Mechanical Engineer should typically have 15 years or more of significant design and practice experience in a leadership role with a Mechanical Engineering firm or a multi-discipline Architectural & Engineering firm with substantial knowledge of applicable mechanical, plumbing, and energy codes and standards.

    Experience with energy modeling may be given additional consideration.

    Experience as a lead designer or Mechanical Engineer in federal, state, municipal, healthcare, commercial, higher education or similar projects plus experience in Design/Build and CM at Risk project delivery methods is desirable.

    For Mechanical Engineers assigned to our Science + Technology division, experience with laboratory, life sciences, industrial, data centers, and good manufacturing practices (GMP) cleanroom mechanical design may be given additional consideration.

    We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set established between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients).

    Physical RequirementsWork is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated.
