Job Summary
Responsible for assisting providers in the administration of patient care in assigned clinical areas. Assists with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes.

Also performs general administrative duties in accordance with TJC, CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA and government standards, as well as company policies and procedures.

All patient care is under the direction of a physician and within the scope of a medical assistant. May also be required to schedule patient appointments, ensure medical necessity compliance, and verify eligibility for care.


Minimum Qualifications

Education:


  • High school diploma or GED required
    and Graduation from a Medical Assistant program
    or eligible for certification by either The American Medical Technologist (AMT)
    or:
  • The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    or National Health career Association (NHA)
    or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) required within 12 months of hire

Licenses/Certifications:


  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
    or:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
    or:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
    or:
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) required within twelve (12) months of hire;
    and Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification
    or within 30 days of hire
  • Maintains required credentials

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:


  • Three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain good communications; ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, physicians, patients, families, and the public
  • Working knowledge of ICD9/10 and CPT coding and insurance procedures
  • Agrees to float to other clinic practices; employees must be reachable at all times during working hours for coverage/schedule changes

Principal Accountabilities

  • Performs all office procedures with mínimal assistance. Documents comprehensive patient information, care actions and patient responses with accuracy. Promotes organized care and office workflow. Utilizes and maintains office equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Promotes efficient workflow in office. Uses and maintains appropriate resources to guide practice. Evaluates equipment and manages resources appropriately.
  • Obtains advanced Electronic Medical Record skills and competence.
  • Effectively prioritizes tasks to promote quality and safe patient care. Provides quality patient/familylearning experiences based on identified needs or projected needs as directed by the provider.
  • Conducts hearing, vision, breathing and EKG testing; records results in chart. Administers medications as directed using seven rights.
  • Participates in some quality management initiatives. Contributes positively to the overall patient satisfaction scores. Maintains, documents, and evaluates quality control testing.
  • Cross trains to perform patient access tasks, including: take messages and assist providers with return phone calls to patients and pharmacies appropriately.
  • Provides feedback to management with recommendations for changes. Seeks methods to improve communication with patients and family members.
  • Participates in appropriate role in disasters, fire drills, fires and other emergency situations. Participates in emergency situations and intervenes with clinical competence. Complies with and promotes safety and emergency procedures.
  • Exercises care in the operation and use of equipment and reference materials. Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance to ensure continued functioning of equipment. Maintains work areas in a clean, safe and organized manner.
  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports departmentbased goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
