Teaching at Hollywood Schoolhouse


Hollywood Schoolhouse seeks a dynamic teacher assistant to work collaboratively with the lead teacher and to be a positive, contributing member of the HSH community.


  • With Respect to Children_
  • Is responsible for supporting the lead teacher in the instruction of students and delivery of curriculum.
  • Teaches and supports in accordance with the school's mission and educational philosophy.
  • Helps the lead teacher to guide and counsel children.
  • Confers with appropriate school personnel when issues of student concern arise.
  • Is familiar with the academic, social/emotional, and health history of each child.
  • Seeks helpful input from appropriate school personnel regarding the needs of students.
  • Fulfills duties and responsibilities as outlined by the lead teacher (e.g., photocopies, taking attendance, etc.)
  • Helps students develop socially and emotionally, as responsible, respectful persons.
  • With Respect to Classroom and Supervision_
  • Helps to create a classroom environment conducive to learning; an atmosphere where creativity, mutual respect and self esteem are valued and modeled.
  • Implements the classroom management plan as designed by the lead teacher.
  • Helps to maintain a clean and organized classroom.
  • Assists with updating bulletin boards and student work in accordance with curriculum.
  • Supervises children in and outside of the classroom as required.
  • With Respect to Parents_
  • Treats families as people first and works to make them feel known, valued, and encouraged.
  • Assists the lead teacher with parent conferences according to the school calendar and other conferences as necessary.
  • Assists with weekly or daily newsletters.
  • Keeps all family matters confidential and only discusses them with the administration, lead teacher, and family.
  • With Respect to the School and Administration_
  • Role models, clarifies and enforces philosophy, standards and regulations as outlined in the Handbook.
  • Fulfills additional duties as assigned by the administration.
  • Attends necessary meetings as requested by administration.
  • Shows continued growth and enhancement of skills and knowledge through professional development.
  • With Regard to the Staff Handbook_
  • Reads and understands the Staff Handbook.
  • Follows the policies and procedures outlined in the Staff Handbook.

Requirements:


  • Position Requirements_
  • At least 3 years working with ECE or elementary age children in a supervisory role (e.g., camp counselor, tutor, assistant teacher, etc.)
  • Demonstrated success working with students
  • Background with conflict resolution training/behavior management for schoolage children
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
  • Working towards a degree in education and/or certification in teaching
