Description
St. Paul High School is a co-educational Catholic college preparatory high school in Santa Fe Springs. We currently accept resumes for a compassionate and dedicated High School academic counselor. As an academic counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting our students' academic, social, and emotional development.

You will work collaboratively with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to create a positive and nurturing environment conducive to student success.

Applicants should be familiar with and supportive of a Catholic high school's educational and spiritual philosophy and mission.


Requirements:


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited institution.
  • State certification or licensure as a school counselor.
  • Previous experience working as a counselor in a school setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problemsolving skills.
  • Ability to establish rapport with diverse students and families.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, mental health issues, and counseling techniques.
  • Familiarity with educational and career planning resources.
  • Commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address students' academic, personal, and social concerns.
  • Assist students in developing academic and career goals, and guide course selection, college admissions, and career planning.
  • Conduct assessments to identify students' strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to develop strategies for supporting students' academic progress and emotional wellbeing.
  • Implement programs and initiatives to promote positive mental health and prevent bullying, substance abuse, and other issues affecting students.
  • Serve as a resource for students and families in crisis, and make appropriate referrals to external agencies when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions, assessments, and interventions in compliance with school policies and confidentiality laws.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in school counseling, and participate in professional development activities to enhance counseling skills and knowledge.
