- Develops and implements culturally appropriate case management procedures to support students in need of crisis intervention, as well as to provide consultation and referral-based support for students who have been referred to community resources (therapists, psychiatrists, clinics, hospitals, etc.).
- Delivers crisis intervention to students requesting a need for urgent, same-day psychological support.
- Provides triage sessions to students who are initiating services with CAPS.
- Assists and supports students in identifying and accessing services from community resources based on the assessed level of care necessary for mental health services (e.g., outpatient, partial, IOP, or in-patient) as well as facilitating referral to other medical providers as appropriate. Examples include meeting with students to provide referral information, exploring and helping students to navigate barriers to accessing appropriate community resources, and providing case management for students who may need connection with various services, both on and off campus.
- Coordinating with the Student Support and Case Management Services to assist students who have been hospitalized for psychiatric concerns to transition successfully back to campus. This may include working with hospital staff and the Student Support and Case Management Services to coordinate discharge planning and follow-up care as well as helping to facilitate student access to appropriate services on- and off-campus.
- Assists and collaborates with CAPS staff in treatment and disposition planning for students with complex mental health needs, particularly for those students who are frequent users of same-day appointments.
- Creates and maintains a comprehensive referral database for mental health providers throughout the local area and assists students in finding accessible mental health care in their home states as needed.
- Promotes and adheres to the highest ethical standards when serving on teams within the institution when discussing student care.
- Maintains thorough and timely clinical documentation.
- Expands and maintains an up-to-date referral resource list. This should include, but is not limited to, individual therapists, IOP programs (for varying needs, including eating disorders), psychological assessment resources, psychiatrists, and hospitals.
- Coordinates and provides crisis intervention services on a drop-in basis for students presenting with urgent mental health concerns.
- Facilitates assessment of risk-related concerns, completes clinical documentation, and coordinates treatment planning.
- At the clinical director's discretion, the position may require the maintenance of a small, short-term caseload (3-4 clients at a time) as follow-up to best coordinate treatment and student access to appropriate supports.
- Provides brief and single session psychotherapy/counseling to students with complex mental health concerns to facilitate their transition to on-campus and community referrals, as appropriate.
- Serves as back-up, consultative support for other CAPS staff working with students presenting with emergent risk and/or other emotional health needs.
- In coordination with other CAPS staff, the Access Coordinator/Clinical Case Manager will assist with tasks involved in connecting students with the determined level of care/support needed (e.g. identifying community referral resources, coordinating appropriate releases for information, arranging transportation for psychiatric hospitalization, connecting with caregivers or other appropriate personnel, etc.)
- Develop partnerships with agencies to help students access and utilize needed services (e.g., local mental health providers, agencies, and hospitals).
- Build liaison relationships with KU partners to enhance CAPS visibility and referrals.
- Market CAPS to the campus community.
- In coordination/collaboration with CAPS staff, Access Coordinator/Clinical Case Manager will lead and deliver campus programming focused on prevention, including workshops.
- Active involvement in all training programs including supervision of trainees, and educational activities.
- Track referrals and outcomes.
- Be an active, respectful, and engaged member of CAPS.
- Actively seek to improve services to eligible members of the KU community. staff and other assigned meetings/committees.
- Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counseling or closely-related field.
- One year related experience.
- Experience and commitment to working with and contributing to a multi-disciplinary, and multi-theoretical team providing culturally attuned services and training as demonstrated by application materials.
- Experience multi-tasking.
- Current independent licensure in mental health care.
- 3 years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of individuals whose age and psychological development are similar to traditional and non-traditional college students.
- Experience in a university counseling center or university environment.
- Experience in crisis situations.
- Experience working within a brief model of care.
- Experience and strong interest in providing outreach presentations and group work.
- Experience with training and supervision.

Position Overview:
The Access Coordinator/Clinical Case Manager is a member of the CAPS leadership team who works closely with the clinical director and clinical services team. They provide case management to assist students with connecting to off campus mental health care; provide triage and crisis assessment and intervention; develop and maintain partnerships with KU and community agencies to help students access services in the community and to enhance the Counseling Center's visibility and referral sources.
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, as well as being proficient in time-management and organization, verbal and written communication, and independent thinking and decision making.

CAPS is a member of the Division of Student Affairs, where "We make learning possible." In collaboration with our colleagues across campus, we prepare students to succeed through personal development, peer engagement, lifelong learning, and social responsibility.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is comprised of the Clinical Service and Campus Assistance, Resource, and Education (CARE) teams. We are an interdisciplinary team of professionals that work collaboratively to meet the mental health needs of the student community. The goal of the Counseling Center is to provide students with clinical, educational and outreach-based services that benefit the mental health and well-being of all Jayhawks. Our services are primarily short-term in nature, and we make referrals to other helping professionals and community agencies as appropriate.
