Mandatory position requirements

  • Passing a preemployment drug test and background check.
  • Prior HRrelated Union experience is mandatory for this position.
  • This is a hybrid role, with working onsite 34 days per week as needed
  • Frequent travel is necessary to Sims Metal at 2500 S. Paulina St., Chicago, IL 6060
  • Occasional travel to other locations in Chicago is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tasks required to administer and execute human resources programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; training and development; employee relations counseling; conducts exit interviews.
  • Coaches, counsels and guides managers before executing employee disciplinary actions. Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.
  • Plans, organizes and controls all activities of the department for the client group. Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems
  • Coordinates all human resources training programs. Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops and presentations for legal, compliance and company policy.
  • In conjunction with NAM Talent Acquisition, conducts onboarding activities for all exempt, nonexempt and temporary workers.
  • Establishes and maintains department records and reports. Participates in administrative staff meetings. Maintains organizational charts and employee directory.
  • In conjunction with NAM Labor Relations, represents management in investigations, answering and settlement of grievances through grievance hearings between union personnel, supervisor and the management team.
  • Active participation in contract negotiations in support of the NAM Director of Labor Relations.
  • Maintains working relationship with union officials and adheres to terms of labor contract by monitoring daytoday implementation of policies concerning work conditions.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including exposure/support to other regions from timetotime.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in Human Resources
  • Prior HRrelated Union experience is preferred
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, and communications skills
  • Attention to detail and good judgment
  • Bilingual (Spanish) highly preferred
