    Description
Postdoctoral Fellow in Ecology, Evolution, Environment & Society

    Location:
    Hanover, NH
    Open Date:
    Feb 14, 2024
    Description:

We seek applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship affiliated with the Ecology, Evolution, Environment, and Society (EEES) Graduate Program at Dartmouth College. EEES is a highly interactive and vibrant interdisciplinary community of over 75 faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars. This diverse community of scholars conducts innovative research in the natural sciences and interdisciplinary environmental studies, including ecology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, economics, governance, and geography.

We aim to recruit an environmental social scientist whose work is synergistic with our program's strengths in ecology and ecosystem science. Applicants should have a strong background in interdisciplinary research, advanced analytical skills, and an interest in undergraduate and graduate education. We are especially interested in qualified candidates whose research interests complement the EEES program's existing strengths in anthropology, environmental studies, and geography. In addition to pursuing independent and collaborative research, postdoctoral fellows are expected to enhance graduate student education and professional development through a seminar series or working group dedicated to developing a research product. Applicants should identify in their cover letter one or more potential faculty mentors from the EEES program and describe how their research interests fit within current or future projects. We encourage applicants to contact potential mentors in advance.

This is a one-year residential fellowship (starting date negotiable), with possibility of renewal for a second year pending satisfactory performance. This is a full-time appointment with a salary of approximately $60,000 (exact amount will be set at the time of appointment), benefits, and up to $5000 annually in research and professional development resources. Fellows are expected to be strong contributing members of the vibrant EEES community, and to foster productive discourse both within and beyond the program. Postdoctoral scholars are also supported by the Guarini School for Graduate and Advanced Studies, including their diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The EEES program and Dartmouth as a whole are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. Dartmouth recently launched a new initiative, Toward Equity, that embraces shared definitions of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as a foundation for our success in institutional transformation. The EEES Program is committed to antiracism, equity, and inclusion, and resolves to create programs, measures, and systems of accountability that ensure trainee success. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds and with different identities and attributes. Applicants should address in their fellowship statement how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth's commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This statement will be evaluated as part of the selection process.

    Qualifications:

PhD degree, or ABD with degree received before the start date, in a relevant field by the time of the appointment. Start date is expected to be 1 September 2024.
