The Institute of Fluid Dynamics conducts both basic and applied research in thermo-fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, with the goal of improving sustainability, energy efficiency, and safety in industrial processes.

The Thermal Energy Technology Group at HZDR is currently seeking a

PhD Student (f/m/d) for the EU Horizon MSCA-Doctorate Network CaviPRO: Modelling of Diffusion and Reactions of Hydroxyl Radicals Generated by Cavity Collapse

This position will be available from August 1, 2024 and is limited until July 31, 2027. The location of work is in Dresden-Rossendorf, with a weekly workload of 39 hours.

Your responsibilities
  • Characterize the impact of cavitation-vortex-turbulence interaction on cavitation through DNS using the parallel, hierarchical code PHASTA on a scale of tens of bubbles
  • Quantify the effects of related physical mechanisms on the concentration and diffusion rate of OH radicals through DNS
  • Investigate the interactions between diffusion and reactions of OH radicals
