JOB DESCRIPTION

Dark Room:
The dark room serves as the heart of screen printing. Properly managing screen quality ensures smooth and efficient screen-printing. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and pride in screen preparation. Exposing screens involves a blend of scientific and creative techniques.

Key tasks include coating screens with an automated coater, exposing screens with art, organizing, and storing films and screens, checking and tracking screen tension, labeling screens, and taping screens.

Maintaining a clean, efficient dark room for screen preparation is essential. Familiarity with computers and electronics is advantageous, as occasional maintenance or troubleshooting of machinery may be required.


Reclaiming:
Reclaiming is the process of restoring a screen to its original state for reuse.

It involves removing tape, ink with degrader chemicals, softening the emulsion, pressure washing off the emulsion, then scrubbing and degreasing the screen.

Typically, this is done with an automated reclaimer and pressure washer, though manual intervention may be necessary. Ensuring screens are free of dirt and debris is crucial before returning them to the dark room. A dirty screen can lead to failures in the dark room or during printing, causing the process to restart. Attention to detail is key. Additional tasks include taping, stretching shur-loc screens, screen maintenance, changing filters, oil, and cleaning tanks, rinsing, and drying screens. An aptitude for handiwork is beneficial, but training is available.


Floater:
This role also functions as a "floater," supporting production as needed.

Responsibilities include collaborating with production teams to complete screen printing projects on schedule, preparing merchandise for printing, counting blank apparel, mixing inks, loading screens on press for pre-registration, and maintaining a clean and organized shop.

Enthusiasm for participating in the creative process and producing diverse printed apparel adds a dynamic and enjoyable aspect to the position.

• Has a passion for custom printed photography, clothing production, fashion, or art.
• Enjoys handson work while also being comfortable with digital tasks.
• Brings experience in some form of manufacturing.
• Exhibits strong counting skills, particularly in large quantities.
• Thrives in a lively, fastpaced environment.
• Familiarity with screen printing, embroidery, directtogarment, or sublimation processes is a plus but not mandatory.
• Knowledge of art, Adobe Photoshop, or Illustrator is advantageous, though not essential.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• Ability to set aside mobile phones and work without frequent distractions from notifications, messages, and social media. Mobile phones, smartwatches, and other mobile devices are not allowed during shop operations.
• Must be able to stand for an entire workday.
• Must be capable of consistently performing repetitive movements for up to 8 hours a day when necessary.
• The position operates within a manufacturing environment, requiring constant awareness of surroundings.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Must wear appropriate attire suitable for painting; loose clothing is not allowed.
• May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses.
• Must be able to distinguish colors across the full spectrum.
• Must be able to lift, move, or load boxes weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading English is required.
• Basic math and counting skills are essential.
• Familiarity with basic hand tools and general safety.
• Basic mechanical aptitude is required.
• Ability to interpret and follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and courteously with coworkers.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must maintain a clean shop and follow a "clean as you go" approach, including but not limited to:
• Careful handling and cleaning of ink buckets to prevent cross-contamination.
• Proper organization, storage, and labeling of ink after each use.
• Cleaning squeegees, fill bars, and inked equipment after every use.
• Removing ink from floors and equipment immediately after spills occur.
• Cleaning presses, dryers, and other equipment of dust and ink.
