    Description


    1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
    2. Plans and implements the daily educational tutoring curriculum, using established/recommended tutoring curricula from project administrators and/or supervisor.
    3. Implements, coordinates and oversees the implementation of the educational tutoring curriculum in the after school and summer programs.
    4. Follows all established curriculum guidelines, timelines, data collection and any other stipulations and requirements of grant that funds the academic component of the program.
    5. Assesses the individual academic needs, interests, and abilities of the children in the program and adapts educational curriculum/tutoring to meet them. Establishes individual assessment and tutoring plans for each participant as directed by grant requirements.
    6. Maintains program data, written records and reports on individual children as needed and as required by the YMCA and project funding sources.
    7. Prepares site daily for arrival of children; maintains organization of site throughout program time; cleans up space at conclusion of program following the COVID related virus control policies.
    8. Recommends purchase of instructional materials and teaching aids to supervisor such as books, software, and educational supplies designed to stimulate learning.
    9. Ensures compliance with all TANF funding requirements and YMCA quality standards, CACFP and ODJFS licensing requirements.
    10. Maintains regular communication regarding each participant's behavioral and academic progress with appropriate participant's classroom teachers, other school & program staff, and student's families; recommends methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences.
    11. Attends all staff meetings, appropriate child care workshops, appropriate specialized trainings and safety trainings. Maintains required training hours.
    12. Maintains positive and professional relationships and cooperates with appropriate participant's school staff, YMCA staff, youth, families, and community.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must be at least 21 years of age and have experience teaching or tutoring school-age children in an academic setting.
    • BA or BS degree from an accredited college in the field of Education or related field, Teacher certification required OR a B.S or B.A from an accredited college and/or meets the substitute qualifications to be a public school district substitute or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Passionate belief in the Y's cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
    • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
    • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
    • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
    • Must submit all required paperwork for ODJFS licensing. Must submit a staff medical statement as required by ODJFS standards. Must obtain and keep current training certifications in first aid, communicable diseases, child abuse recognition & prevention as required by ODJFS. Must attend all necessary YMCA, child care and/or grant related training.
