The Member Account Specialist Position is assessed in band G. The band G wage range is $20.90/hour-$31.33/hour. NHRS is currently hiring at $23.00-$25/hour

SCOPE OF WORK


Through the use of computer technology, assembles, verifies and prepares membership service and financial credit data to produce benefit estimates and actual annuity payment calculations.


ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Performs comprehensive contribution and service credit reviews of manual and automated client records; performs and documents any required adjustments to those accounts for subsequent statement and benefit calculation purposes.
  • Examines member records for accuracy of service credit, salary information and other pertinent membership and retirement eligibility data under the NHRS statute.
  • Calculates and approves disbursements and billings to member and employer accounts for contribution refunds and remittance adjustments.
  • Reviews and approves member refunds and previously withdrawn service credit purchases processed by the Prior Service Credit Consultant/Refund Clerk.
  • Posts interest to member records to prepare them for receiving a refund or a finalized retirement benefit.
  • Posts service credit purchases to member records.
  • Conducts fact finding with members and employers on issues of eligibility to obtain information needed to make correct decisions.
  • Communicates orally and in writing the requirements and procedures of the retirement process to members and the employers to increase awareness and provide guidance.
  • Researches various technical and archival data to resolve problems and issues of historical consequences regarding benefit payments.
  • Compiles data for various research projects and prepares reports for use by benefits specialists and management.
  • Assist a superior in planning and coordinating program activities and in training subordinates.
  • Recommends procedural changes or alternate work methods to improve the flow of work.
  • Other appropriate and related duties as assigned by supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree with major study in public administration, business administration, accounting or other related field.


License/Certification:
Valid driver's license preferred.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • This
    position may require some instate travel and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including periodic evening hours.

RECOMMENDED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND TRAITS:


  • Knowledge of general office equipment including computer, fax, telephone, printer, shredder, copier.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with internal and external diverse constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice appropriate judgment, discretion, and diplomacy;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with mínimal supervision, as well as effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:


  • This position requires sitting (80%), standing (5%), and walking (15%).

Additional physical requirements are as follows:

  • Requires lifting materials of approximately 2025 lbs.
  • Often requires computer responsibility which involves extensive use of keyboard, mouse and monitor.

Work Environment/Conditions:


  • Dayshift hours primarily, although overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Work related assignments on weekends are possible.
