Duties Description
The duties and responsibilities of the incumbent include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as the first point-of-contact as the Receptionist for the NYC Regional Office, including answering telephones; taking and relaying messages; greeting staff, visitors, and patrons in a friendly and courteous manner; and utilizing a multi-line phone set.
  • Performing office tasks such as data entry, filing, alphabetizing, copying, and other related tasks using computers, postage machines, and other standard office equipment.
  • Learning and using inhouse databases to process payroll, purchasing, and personnel transactions.
  • Creating databases as needed to record and streamline office procedures.
  • Handling complaints or inquiries from park patrons regarding the quality of their experience, the cleanliness of facilities, noise from other facility users, and other customer service issues for the Regional Office and all State Parks in the New York City region.
  • Updating calendars and logs for front desk operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Comments

OPERATIONAL NEEDS:

  • Must be organized and communicate clearly and effectively, both in speech and writing. Ability to communicate in Spanish is helpful, but not required.
  • Prior business office experience and some college studies preferred.
  • Must be able to multitask in a fastpaced environment, work independently and set priorities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Must possess strong computer skills and experience with spreadsheets. Familiarity with Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Must be willing to support additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Regional Office.
  • Must be willing to occasionally support tasks and projects at other New York State Parks' work sites in the New York City Region.
  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, and possibly extended weekday hours as needed.
