Description

Purpose:


The Facilities Manager will provide a clean, safe and attractive environment so that the ministry of the church might grow; that is: making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

This position keeps the Office Administrator, Directing Pastor and the Trustee Committee chairperson informed about concerns and emerging issues within the physical church property.


Duties:


  • Takes the initiative to perform routine tasks independently.
  • Coordinates and supervises custodial staff.
  • Performs heavy custodial duties, including but not limited to:
○ Cleans, strips and waxes floors

○ Cleans carpeting, furniture, fixtures, walls/windows

○ Cleans entire kitchen including stoves, grills and dishwasher in accordance with Health Department regulations and operation requirements

  • Monitors building conditions during work hours reporting any suspected problems or unsafe conditions.
  • Identifies and seeks solutions to needed repairs to the church, especially major repairs that could prove detrimental to the facility if not addressed.
  • Identifies and utilizes space and storage needs by staff and makes recommendations for consolidating and / or removal of unneeded items.
  • Coordinates preparation / cleanup activities for building events.
  • Works with various organizations and committees, including but not limited to Methodist Women of Faith, Methodist Men, Boy Scouts of America, kitchen and funeral committees to address any needs or problems.
  • Assists church / staff members in:
○ Preparing rooms

○ Providing equipment and ensure that it is functioning properly

○ Making arrangements for meetings / other events as needed.

  • Moves / arranges furniture and equipment as directed.
  • Performs minor repairs, being mindful not to disrupt building activities.
  • Maintains grounds, groundskeeping elements and organizes volunteers for groundskeeping.
  • Maintains / orders supplies that are needed for reliable service levels, i.e. filter replacement in air handlers
  • Assists with the receipt / inspection / verification of deliveries.
  • Picks up / delivers equipment, materials and other supplies as directed.
  • Reports vandalism and other related concerns.
  • Inspects safety equipment and prepares for fire, health and safety inspections by qualified personnel.
  • Reviews all facilityrelated contracts including but not limited to:
○ Fire / safety

○ Maintenance

○ Supplies

○ Equipment

for accuracy and appropriateness and provides a recommendation to the Trustees Committee for approval / denial of the contract(s).


Administration:


  • Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
  • Attends Trustees meetings and assists with Trustees to develop budget proposal each year.
  • Work with Directing Pastor / Trustee Committee chairperson on major repairs to property.
  • Utilizes and works with qualified MMC congregation members on church projects to ensure all work is appropriate, safe and codecompliant.

Duties for Weddings / Anniversaries / Receptions

  • Be present one hour before the event begins (or earlier by prior arrangement).
  • Check with Directing Pastor and wedding coordinator about possible lastminute changes.
  • Ensure the building is open in adequate time before the event.
  • Be present / available during the event.
  • Remain in the building afterwards for cleanup.
  • Take necessary action after the event to ensure appropriate levels of sanitation and cleanliness are met.
  • Close the building after the event and related cleanup has been completed.
  • If unable to be present, ensure coverage for the event.

Duties for Miscellaneous Events

  • Provide custodial services as requested.

Necessary Attributes:


  • Climb stairs and physical ability to carry out job responsibilities, including lifting approximately 35 pounds
  • General knowledge of building and groundskeeping maintenance
  • Ability to work in a team setting with in a Christian environment

Desirable/Preferred:


  • Previous building maintenance experience

Compensation:

$20/hour
