Summer Portals at Hotchkiss School includes a wide variety of academic and recreational offerings to rising 5th through 10th grade students, many of whom are experiencing a residential learning experience for the first time.

Students come to Summer Portals from diverse nationalities and cultures, seeking academic enrichment and exploration.


GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The Golf Program Director will oversee a group of 15-20 students, organizing them into skill-based groupings and supervising 3-4 fellows to assist with program activities.

The Director will be responsible for teaching basic golf skills, ensuring adherence to golf etiquette, emphasizing safety with golf clubs and hitting, and cultivating an interest in the sport among participants.

Additionally, the Director will supervise student activities, maintain vigilance with safety protocols, and foster an organized and positive learning environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • In advance of Program dates, develop and review curriculum, and syllabus as well as review both groupbased and individually guided activities and content;
  • Assist in procuring necessary program materials and equipment before the program begins.
  • Participate in Summer Portals faculty orientation, which includes online professional boundaries training in Sexual Harassment Prevention, and CT Department of Children and Families Mandated Reporter Training.
  • Support and contribute to the curriculum and class lesson planning during the program,
  • Instruct students by observing their academic level, conducting activities to support their skill development; and helping them explore and take creative risks.
  • Counsel, support, and guide students as needed.
  • Identify and communicate with the Dean of Summer Programs, any emergent need that warrants immediate support, ensuring student safety and wellbeing.
  • At the end of the program, provide a written assessment commenting on each student's progress through the program, describing their growth, attitude, effort as well as achievement.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Demonstrated experience coaching golf and working with middle and/or high school students.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to promote inclusive and respectful behavior.
  • Friendly demeanor with compassion, empathy, and patience for students.
