The Data Scientist I provides technical expertise across a broad range of data analysis functions including data modeling, visualization, data profiling, data origin and lineage, report design, and other specialized data management functions.


The incumbent develops predictive and prescriptive analytics for a variety of strategic business challenges in consumer, commercial and shared services at TD Bank.

The incumbent will be part of a team that's leading the next wave of disruption at a whole new scale, using the latest in computing and machine learning technologies and operating across billions of customer records.

The incumbent oversees the development of statistical and machine learning models, data mining and advanced analytic solutions, facilitates key strategic discussions, and provides thought leadership to executive audience.

The incumbent leads end-to-end project delivery for large scale and cross-functional advanced analytics projects leveraging advanced technologies (Python, SQL, Java, Cortex, PySpark, ArcPro, Distributed Computing) and methods (advanced statistics, advanced mathematics, machine learning, geospatial analytics, storytelling & visualization).

Engaging and communicating with senior executives, and business partners from the start and through the journey, crafting and articulating the business problems from a technical/quantitative definition and facilitate key strategic discussions and provide thought leadership.

The incumbent will lead and oversee building best-in-class complex statistical and machine learning models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.

Will lead effective interaction with Model Risk Management (MRM) and Compliance (CAP) partners to successfully go through approval and validation process in a timely manner.

Ensure that the model/project solves the desired business problem, is moved to production efficiently, and is deployed for maximum value and work with downstream teams as a model expert, integrating the model output to maximum effectiveness (e.g. in marketing campaigns/fraud detection/pricing optimization/network tactics etc.).

The incumbent will build and maintain relationship with our strategic partners (Layer 6, AMCB teams, Enterprise Data & Analytics, and external consultants) and ensure that their solution solves the desired business problem, is moved to production efficiently, and is deployed for maximum value.

Support our strategic partners with data discovery, target definition and other technical support, and collaborate with them to satisfy control & compliance partner requirements.

Depth & Scope:


  • Works autonomously and accountable for acting as a lead within a specialized business management function and provide strategic work direction to others
  • Provides seasoned specialized knowledge, advice and/or guidance to various stakeholders and team members
  • Provides expertise on mathematical concepts for the broader applied analytics team and inspire the adoption of advanced analytics and data science across the organization
  • Creates and builds final dataset from external and internal datamarts for modeling and adhoc analysis ensuring the data is clean and verifies the integrity of the data
  • Applies data mining techniques such as supervised and unsupervised learning to understand the meaningful patterns in the data.
  • Uses statistical, econometrics and machine learning techniques on large dataset to measure results and show key trends in the data, identify casual impact and attribution, model and predict future performance of products, customers and campaigns
  • Writes, creates and interprets complex queries (SQL, HIVE, R, SAS, Python Spark etc.) for standard as well as ad hoc data analysis purpose
  • Collaborates and works closely with cross functional business partners, internal analytics team members to identify gap and business problems
  • Leads the designs, development and implementation of Advanced models (Marketing stages, Attrition, Customer Value, media mix, digital attribution) and create meaningful presentations and analyses that tells a story focused on analytical insights
  • Synthesizes data and analytical methods into actionable business strategy and communicate findings to business partners and executive management team

  • Undertakes and completes a variety of complex projects and initiatives requiring specialist knowledge and/or the integration of cross functional processes within own area of expertise

Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Operational
