Communications Specialist


Job Summary:


The Communications Specialist role supports the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s Technology Partnership Office (TPO) by developing outreach materials, managing stakeholder databases, tracking engagement metrics, and representing TPO at various events.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge advancements in technology and partnerships that drive innovation in understanding and protecting our oceans and atmosphere.


Responsibilities Include:


  • Developing outreach materials such as handouts, PowerPoint slides, speaker notes/talking points, session proposals, summaries of outreach events, eventrelated social media and website content, etc., using Plain Language standards to enhance scientific communications
  • Developing and managing stakeholder databases, tracking engagement metrics, answering recurring data calls, and making sure office engagement plans are shared with relevant contacts
  • Tracking engagement metrics after events and making recommendations for how to enhance future participation and improve engagement strategy
  • Developing and managing a master list of TPO outreach event so List would include dates, submission and registration deadlines, links to previous engagement info, priority level, etc. for completed events and potential engagement opportunities
  • Drafting and submitting session proposals and pursuing speaking roles and exhibits opportunities for priority conferences
  • Working with TPO travelers to plan outreach activities
  • This includes developing engagement objective statements and trip planning documents, drafting event itineraries, and coordinating with outreach leads and other stakeholders to optimize engagements at individual events Representing TPO at various events
  • Customizing and managing TPO stakeholder database/Customer Relations Management (CRM) system for managing partnerships and interactions with individual stakeholders
  • Managing the TPO inbox and directing customer inquiries to appropriate staff
  • Monitoring NOAA and OAR event data calls and adding TPO names, when appropriate

Required Qualifications and Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree
years of experience in the field, working on related activities such as project coordination

  • Strong industry knowledge
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Good reporting, technical, and statistical skills

Desired:


  • Experience with light data analysis/synthesis, looking at metrics and pulling out general trends/observations, developing brief technical summary reports for leadership
  • Prior experience working with business owners, entrepreneurs, and investors
  • Experience with verbal and written communications
  • Experience with designing communications materials and working in Adobe Creative Suite

Work Setting and Environment:


  • Monday
  • Friday, normal working hours
  • Work is to be performed remotely, with onsite visits as needed
  • Onsite location is at NOAA facilities in Silver Spring, MD
