Position Summary:

The
Vice President of Lending (VPL) is a key member of the Executive Management Team.

The VPL's role is to provide leadership and guidance to credit union staff, and to impact the success of the credit union's wellbeing and member engagement efforts.

This will be achieved through effective management, control, and oversight of the credit union's lending program, loan servicing, and collection functions, as well as management of vendors, and/or CUSO partners that serve critical loan operation functions.

The VPL reports to and supports the CEO in the strategic planning, execution of the strategic plan, and overall guidance of the credit union.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Serve as a member of the Executive Team, which includes contributing to and supporting the development, evaluation, and execution of short and longterm strategic operational objectives and priorities that align with the Organizational Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with members of the Executive Team to address organizational issues and mitigate risks throughout the organization.
  • Establish, implement, and oversee the organizational tolerance for lending risk. Establish underwriting guidelines, procedures, and controls to align with risk tolerance while meeting production expectations, and member needs.
  • Lead and manage the staff pertaining to loan origination, loan underwriting, loan servicing, collection functions. Ensure adherence to all lending regulations, credit union loan policies, and lending best practices. Promote employee development, evaluate employee performance, and recruit, hire, and train staff effectively to meet all performance expectations. Handle performance issues and employee separations appropriately.
  • Coordinate with other Executive Team members on the management of liquidity for the organization, drive profitability of products or services offered. Participates on the Board appointed Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO). Responsible for leading Member Business Lending and serves on the Member Business Loan Committee.
  • Evaluate and utilize loan participation purchases or selling efforts to optimize the credit union's revenue from loan interest income, balance risk within balance sheet, and manage liquidity through the lending operation.
  • Other duties may be necessary to impact the successful operation of the credit union.

Position Requirements:


  • Five (5) or more years of related experience in lending operations (including underwriting, servicing, origination, and/or collections). At least three (3) years of progressive responsibility and management of other employees.
  • Demonstrated ability of developing the skills of employees, peers, or teammates.
  • Knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies, and processes pertaining to different types of lending including mortgage, consumer, indirect, business/commercial, as well as collections.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Position requires strong leadership, analytical, technical and communications skills (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to implement strategic initiatives.
  • Experience with leading and managing projects.

Other:


  • Some travel required. This position can be performed remotely, with approx. 10% of time required to be in office (Washington DC).
