Summary


At the direction of the Coding Manager, the Coder will be part of a collaborative team and is responsible for coding services assigned to them.

Review of documentation and/or verification of charges. Responsible for accurately and efficiently assigning ICD-10 diagnosis codes, CPT and HCPCs procedure codes. Compliance with national coding standards and regulatory agencies is an essential part of the job responsibilities. Acts with integrity and adheres to code of conduct and ethics. Keep the lines of communication open with the provider/practice to answer documentation and coding questions. Spot audit provider's documentation and coding, document the results provide feedback and education to the providers/coding managers. Attend the monthly provider meetings and round through assigned practices as an avenue to give further education.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Code for technical and/or professional data
  • Documentation review for coding by abstraction or service verification
  • Assign CPT and HCPC procedure codes
  • Assign and sequence diagnosis codes
  • Charge entry in to billing system as applicable
  • Review coding editing software to resolve outstanding edits
  • Review coding related denials, customer service and billing inquiries
  • Maintain department quality/accuracy standards
  • Maintain department productivity standards
  • Keep current on information and trends pertaining to areas of coding Communicate with Coding Leadership regarding pertinent issues
  • Membership in professional Coding organizations Attendance at required meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintenance of required CEU's for certification Perform other duties as required or assigned
Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Certification, Registration, and Licensure


One of the following certifications is required: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder for Hospital (COC) from the AAPC; or Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist for Physicians (CCS-P) from AHIMA.

Experience

At least one year Coding experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
