The Bach Choir of Bethlehem is seeking a Director of Education and Community Engagement to coordinate the creation, implementation, and management of our educational and community outreach programs.

This role is pivotal in engaging both young people and adults through innovative educational initiatives and community partnerships, enhancing the integration of these programs into our long-term mission.

Founded in 1898, the world-renowned Bach Choir of Bethlehem now offers 40 concerts and educational programs a year for an audience of more than 22,000.


Overall Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Management: Work closely with the Artistic Director & Conductor and Executive Director to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate all educational and community engagement programs. This includes reestablishing and overseeing programs like the Cantare program, which provides choral instruction to underserved youth, and managing our extensive youth engagement initiatives such as the Bach to School program, Bach at Noon program, Greg Funfgeld Family Concert, Bel Canto Youth Chorus program, and Choral Scholars program.
  • Educational Advocacy: Together with the Artistic Director & Conductor, serve as spokesperson for the choir in educational matters, advocating for educational initiatives both internally and externally to build support among educational and community institutions.

School Outreach:
Strengthen existing relationships and form new partnerships with local schools, arts organizations, and community groups. Focus on recruiting young families and engaging youth through targeted outreach initiatives. Coordinate all school-based programs, including in-school performances and the integration of educational content into community settings.

  • Resource Management: Assist in the management of the music library, including organizing, ordering, and distributing scores.

Use creativity to assist the Artistic Director and Conductor and Executive Director to develop new programs that incorporate current educational and technological trends, expanding community reach and engagement.


  • Budget and Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Director to set education and outreach goals, develop program budgets, and monitor progress, adjusting plans as necessary to align with organizational objectives.

Position Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Education, Arts Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 58 years of experience in arts education administration with a proven track record of successful program development and management.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, conceptual, analytical, and communication skills. Excellent organizational and management capabilities.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with choral or orchestral repertoire and conducting is advantageous, along with experience in arts integration, curriculum development, and professional development for educators and artists. Key Functions
  • Fundraising and Advocacy: Work closely with the Development Director to create funding proposals for educational and community programs. Actively engage with donors and community leaders to foster support and funding for programs.
  • Operational Coordination: Coordinate with the Artistic Director & Conductor on scheduling, contracting, program design, and execution. Ensure the effective management of multiple diverse programs simultaneously.
  • Community Engagement: Establish and nurture effective collaborations with community organizations and educational institutions to enhance program reach and impact.

Compensation:
$65,000-$75,000/year plus benefits
